Design And Hardware

The BenQ X300G is a compact short-throw projector designed to project large images from a close distance, allowing for easy usage in smaller spaces like a room. Its convenience factor significantly impacted my daily use, as I could effortlessly switch from my laptop to the projector without the need to set up a separate viewing area. Given its lightweight of just 3kg, the projector is easily portable, allowing you to take it with you wherever you go.

Whether you plan to enjoy a movie or watch a sports match with friends on the weekend, you can effortlessly transport the projector in a bag to your friend’s house and project a large display on any surface. The convenience of its size and the ability to project up to a 120-inch image from a distance of only 3 meters make it perfect for widespread use. This projector has a lifespan of 30,000 hours, making it quite remarkable. Even with regular TV use, it will endure for an extended period.

Specifications And Features

Before delving further into my experience, let’s explore the features available here. The X300G is a projector with a 3LED light source, providing 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160 pixels). It boasts 95 percent Rec.709 color gamut support, enabling it to reproduce most colors within the Rec.709 standard. This projector is equipped with HDR 10 / HLG support for high dynamic range. With a peak brightness of 2000 lumens, it works well in some ambient light conditions, but visibility may be compromised in well-lit rooms. In terms of projection size, the X300G offers a range from 60 inches to 120 inches in clear focus mode and 30 inches to 300 inches in maximum screen size mode.

The projector features a 1.2x optical motorized zoom that allows for convenient adjustment of the throw ratio, enabling flexible screen positioning without compromising image quality. In addition, the X300G is equipped with a 3D Keystone feature to automatically correct the image for a square projection, even when the projector is positioned at an angle, aiding in screen alignment.

The X300G provides various connectivity options including an HDMI 2.0 port with Audio Return+ 7.1 support, a USB Type-C port, and a USB Type-A port. Additionally, it features built-in Android TV (11) for streaming content through apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime, JioCinema, and supports Airplay, Miracast, and Chromecast.

Gaming-Centric Features

The X300G is equipped with three default game modes: RPG, FPS, and SPG, tailored for Role-Playing games, First Person Shooting games, and Sports games respectively. Through CinematicColor and CinematicSound technologies, the projector adjusts the visuals and audio based on the selected game mode.

RPG mode – Offers movie-like cinematic colour and surround sound.

FPS mode – Deeper black details and clear surround sound to make sure you hear footsteps.

SPG mode – Natural skin tones of players and realistic live-broadcast vocals.

The key feature of this projector is its low input lag. The X300G provides 8ms latency for 1080p resolution video at 120Hz refresh rate and 16ms latency for 4K video at 60Hz.

Gameplay Experience

Having connected my PlayStation 5 to the X300G for a comprehensive performance test across various game genres, I delved into popular titles like EA FC 24, NBA 2K23, Need For Speed Payback, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and more. Initially holding modest expectations, I was pleasantly surprised by the projector’s actual response time during gameplay. To put things into perspective, I found myself competently engaging in online matches while immersing myself in FC 24 and Call of Duty. Gamers familiar with these titles would appreciate the paramount importance of swift response times in online gaming scenarios.

It is important to note that while the projector’s performance did not quite measure up to that of a dedicated gaming monitor, it still delivered a satisfactory experience for casual gamers. If your primary aim is to enjoy gaming sessions without the need for ultra-competitive edge and precision, then you are likely to have an enjoyable gaming experience with this projector. When engaging in single-player games, the visual aspect provides a delightful experience. Navigating through open-world games on a 120-inch screen is a distinctive experience that must be witnessed firsthand to be fully appreciated.

Visual Experience

In addition to its gaming capabilities, I also extensively tested various 4K content on the projector using my laptop and streaming services. The X300G projector is equipped to support the HLG format, which combines HDR and SDR data into a single signal, enhancing the image quality displayed by the projector. The projector excelled in presenting intricate details and vivid color reproduction. Its motorized optical zoom feature ensured that the projected image maintained its quality even as it was enlarged.
When viewing content from streaming platforms, while the fidelity may not match that of UHD discs due to lower bitrates, I was impressed by the overall quality of the 4K content across different platforms.

This highlights the versatility and performance capabilities of the X300G projector in delivering a satisfying viewing experience for a variety of media sources. It’s important to mention that the projector doesn’t perform as effectively in partially lit rooms due to the significant color impact of ambient light. The projector faces challenges in handling ambient light even at its highest brightness level. Yet, when in a sufficiently dim room, the image clarity becomes evident. Unless you intend to view your content in a partially lit environment, you will discover that the visual quality provided here is outstanding for its cost.

Audio Quality

The X300G is equipped with a pair of 8W treVolo speakers and audio quality is enhanced by the latest Bongiovi DSP (Digital Signal Processor). According to the company, the Bongiovi DSP incorporates patented algorithms with 120 calibration points to enhance all audio signals in real-time, providing improved depth, clarity, definition, and presence while also enriching the stereo field imaging for a more immersive cinematic audio experience.

I anticipated the two 8W treVolo speakers on the projector to perform adequately, but they surpassed my expectations. The surround sound provided was sufficient that I didn’t immediately consider hooking up external speakers. The consistent booming sound and satisfactory bass quality impressed me.
