One helpful tip is to pay attention to the model number scheme, where a higher number typically indicates better performance. However, finding a device with gamer-centric aesthetics can be more challenging as the market lacks ample options in this category.

While the ASUS ROG phone is a top choice for those with a budget exceeding Rs 50,000, individuals with a budget under Rs 25,000 may find the new Infinix GT 20 Pro to be a suitable alternative. This smartphone offers impressive features at a more affordable price point, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious gamers looking for a seamless gaming experience on their mobile device.

Infinix is expanding its horizons with the latest Infinix GT 20 Pro, featuring an enhanced built-in multi-color light system designed to captivate serious gamers. The device boasts an upgraded MediaTek chipset and a specialized chip for enhanced gaming performance, as well as a taller display with slimmer bezels for an improved viewing experience.

The Infinix GT 20 Pro is a popular option among budget-conscious gamers due to its practical RGB design, vibrant screen, and fast operation. While it boasts a strong battery life, there is room for enhancing the charging speed in future versions. The inclusion of extra items such as the GT Mecha Case and Cooling fan enhances its versatility. The camera quality is satisfactory during daytime, but improvements are needed for low-light conditions.

Design And Display

The Infinix GT 20 Pro bears resemblances to the previous model, the Infinix GT 10 Pro, in terms of design, featuring a boxy shape with sharp edges and similar patterns on the back that may remind users of the Nothing Phone 2. The rear cameras are arranged similarly, with neon strips running across the round cutouts. The new version weighs 194 grams, which is 7 grams heavier than its predecessor, but the difference is not substantial. The device includes volume and power buttons on the sides, a USB Type-C port at the bottom, and an IR blaster, which is a notable addition considering the price point. However, it lacks a 3.5mm audio jack, a feature that the brand could have considered adding, although it is common for smartphones in this category to omit this port nowadays.

The Infinix GT 20 Pro effectively captures gaming aesthetics. It features a functional LED light setup on the back, with the RGB lights complementing the Mecha Orange variant being reviewed. Additionally, Mecha Silver and Mecha Blue are attractive alternative color choices. The premium Mecha case enhances the overall look and durability of the device.

The RGB lights located at the back are customizable with eight color combinations and four lighting effects. This feature can be accessed through either the Quick Settings Panel or the Settings app. Users have the ability to personalize lights for different notifications. Additionally, the lights can synchronize with the music rhythm and match the gaming aesthetics when playing games on the smartphone.

I am pleased with the incorporation of a flat display on the Infinix GT 20 Pro, especially for its benefits during gaming. The device features a 6.78-inch screen with Full-HD+ resolution of 1,080 x 2,436 pixels, an upgraded 144Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 1300 nits.

Additionally, the display includes 2,304Hz PWM dimming to decrease eye strain at low brightness levels, providing a vivid and vibrant viewing experience, courtesy of the AMOLED panel. To enhance the audio experience, the Infinix GT 20 Pro is equipped with dual stereo speakers developed in collaboration with JBL. While the sound output is satisfactory, a bit more bass punch would have elevated the phone’s audio capabilities.

Performance, Gaming, And Software

The Infinix GT 20 Pro, equipped with the latest MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate SoC, is considered a top performer in its category. While its Geekbench single-core score is average, the smartphone surpasses most competitors in Geekbench multi-core and AnTuTu benchmarks (refer to images below). Infinix is also recognized for introducing LPPDR5X RAM technology in this category. The base model, priced at Rs 24,999, which I am evaluating, features 8GB RAM and 256GB 3.1 storage. The premium model, with 12GB RAM, is priced at Rs 26,999.

The smartphone performs well with popular demanding games such as BGMI, Call of Duty, and Genshin Impact, providing smooth gameplay and impressive graphics beyond expectations. This is achieved through a dedicated graphics chip from PixelWorks that improves HDR and maintains stable frame rates. Infinix has specifically enhanced BGMI to enable support for “extreme+” frame rates of up to 90Hz along with seamless graphics. Additionally, Call of Duty can be played with high graphic settings.

In comparison to certain rivals, the Infinix GT 20 Pro demonstrates more effective thermal control by utilizing VC Liquid cooling technology. Enhanced thermal regulation is achievable with the GT Cooling fan attachment. Additionally, the GT Sleeves included in the exclusive package are particularly beneficial for individuals with sweaty fingers. The GT Mecha case also offers a secure hold when using the smartphone horizontally.

In addition to gaming, the Infinix GT 20 Pro provides numerous features and customization choices. Particularly noteworthy are the gaming themes and Mecha Loop lighting. The device comes with the most recent XOS, which is built on Android 14, and is commendable for its minimal pre-installed applications, offering a fairly streamlined Android user experience. While a few pre-installed apps remain, they are removable.

Cameras

The Infinix GT 20 Pro, like its predecessor, features a primary 108MP camera with OIS support, along with two additional sensors for macro and portrait photography on the rear. On the front, there is a 32MP camera housed within a small hole-punch cutout. The default setting of the Infinix GT 20 Pro emphasizes balanced colors and white balance, resulting in photos that are slightly bright with minimal contrast and shadows in a positive manner. Enabling AI-driven color optimization can make the images appear more vibrant than the actual scene, which could be appealing to users looking to enhance their social media presence, although caution is advised when using this feature.

The main camera is used for taking portrait shots, producing satisfactory results. The Infinix GT 20 Pro excels in creating a bokeh effect and detecting edges. However, when capturing human subjects, the phone tends to enhance skin tone, even when the feature is turned off. This can sometimes result in an unnatural appearance, although some users may like the flawless skin effect. The camera could use some enhancements in accurately capturing shades of red. In some instances, the software may change orange spots to red and red to light pink. This occurrence is rare, and native editing tools can assist in correcting it.

Videos follow the same color science principles. The Infinix GT 20 Pro stands out by providing 4K recording at 60fps. The OIS performs well in maintaining stability, even during 4K recording. The front camera supports 2K recording, a feature uncommon in its price range. The 32MP front camera delivers impressive still and video quality. While the camera tends to soften facial features, it accurately captures skin tones. Some users may prefer a more flawless look in photos, making this feature subjective. However, there is always room for enhancement.

The Infinix GT 20 Pro enhances the fun of using the front camera by offering native tools for AR filters inspired by Snapchat under portrait mode. This entertaining feature is likely to appeal to many users. Nevertheless, similar to many smartphones in its category, the Infinix GT 20 Pro could use improvements in low-light photography. While pictures may seem satisfactory initially, a closer look might reveal graininess and irregular colors.

Activating the Super Night mode can provide some relief, although achieving sharper images may necessitate steady hands or a tripod. Additionally, there may be graininess in daylight photos, but this issue is expected to be resolved through a future over-the-air update.

I was very impressed with the results of the macro photography. The smartphone performed admirably during testing, achieving focus even at close range, a feat that competitors could not match. The main difficulty with macro photography is the lighting, which may need some adjustments such as adding external light.

Battery And Charging Speeds

The Infinix GT 20 Pro is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 45W charging. Although the charging speed is decent, it is notable that numerous competitors now offer a minimum of 67W charging. Nevertheless, the battery life is satisfactory.

Indeed, when utilizing the maximum settings (144Hz and performance mode) along with constant RGB lighting at the rear, the battery lasted for an entire day. During PCMark’s battery assessment, it took close to 10 hours for the battery level to decrease from 100 to 20 percent – a commendable result once more.

Conclusion

The Infinix GT 20 Pro meets the majority of the requirements one would have for a gaming-oriented smartphone. The company has prioritized design, display, and performance, which are crucial to its target audience. While the device offers extended battery life, there is room for enhancements in charging speed.

If you prioritize a camera-focused phone, consider the Nothing Phone 2a or the OnePlus Nord CE4. However, if you value reliable performance, gaming aesthetics, and an intuitive software experience, the Infinix GT 20 Pro is a viable option even though it is primarily a gaming phone with a decent camera for Instagram uploads.
