Design And Display

The Lava Prowatch ZN showcases a classic circular dial made of zinc alloy, offering a combination of lightness and sturdiness. Positioned on the right side are two buttons, with one serving as a rotating crown that resembles those found on leading Apple and Samsung smartwatches. This crown enables smooth navigation through watch faces, menus, and applications, providing a pleasing tactile experience.

The Lava Prowatch ZN features an always-on 1.43-inch AMOLED display with 600 nits peak brightness, 60Hz refresh rate, 466 x 466p resolution, and 326 ppi density when facing up. The display is safeguarded by curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for a polished look. Despite the noticeable bezel typical of budget smartwatches, the display is touch-responsive, providing clear visibility in various lighting conditions. Colors are vibrant, and text is sharp for its price range.

The Lava Prowatch ZN is compatible with both silicon and metal bands. Upon receiving the watch, it had silicone bands that were initially not comfortable on my wrist but became so with regular wear. This wearable complements various outfits and is ideal for long-term use. Wearing it to monitor my sleep at night was comfortable with no issues.c

Features

When it comes to its capabilities, the Lava Prowatch ZN is able to monitor various aspects of your health such as steps taken, heart rate, quality of sleep, and blood oxygen levels. Moreover, it offers over 110 sports modes catering to a wide range of activities like outdoor walking/running, mountain climbing, cycling, elliptical training, basketball, and more. The smartwatch includes a collection of over 110 watch faces, with the option to save eight directly on the watch and access the others through the corresponding app.

In addition, the Lava Prowatch ZN features a speaker grille and microphone for Bluetooth calls, an AI voice assistant, quick responses, built-in games, notifications, a calculator, music controls, a stopwatch, and a timer. It is IP68-rated for water and dust resistance, allowing it to be submerged in water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes, making it ideal for swimming and other water activities.

UI And App Connectivity

The Lava Prowatch ZN features the standard swipe user interface (UI) that is easy to use and understand. Accessing the sports mode is simple – just press the button on the lower right side. You can start or stop the sports mode using the same button. Additionally, the rotating crown serves as a back button and enables smooth menu navigation. The system animations are also smooth. Transitioning between screens and opening apps did not show any lags. To access the apps, a left swipe on the home screen is all you need. Swiping from the top downwards will bring up the quick settings menu, while swiping up will open the messages panel, similar to smartphone notifications.

Lava Prowatch ZN can only be paired with an Android smartphone using the ProSpot app. Users need to log in and provide basic details like name, weight, height, and goal. After this setup, the app displays health information from the watch on the home screen in card format. Users can explore more details by interacting with the cards. The app also features tabs for My Goal, Settings, and Profile as described. The interface appears neat and user-friendly, but it would be more attractive with a contemporary design. Moreover, the app’s loading speed and data retrieval from the smartwatch are sluggish. Furthermore, there was a failure in fetching my sleep data. These are minor issues that can be resolved through a software update. My device was running app version 2.5.

Performance And Battery

The Lava Prowatch ZN runs on a Realtek chipset and is enhanced by VC9202 and VP60A PPG sensors known for precise tracking of heart rate, sleep cycles, and fitness levels. Although this data is not suitable for medical use, it provides a broad summary of your activity metrics. While using it on the treadmill, I noticed that the watch counted around 160 steps less than the treadmill display. Such discrepancies in step counts are common in smartwatches, particularly in the budget range.

Despite not being the most user-friendly, the Prowatch ZN remained stable and reliable throughout my testing period. It effectively presents information on calories burned, distance covered, and steps taken. Moreover, it evaluates sleep quality, distinguishing between light, deep, and REM stages. In terms of Bluetooth calling, it performs optimally in quiet settings, with an acceptable microphone quality considering its price point.

The Lava Prowatch ZN offers up to 8 days of battery life under normal conditions. However, this duration decreases to 2-3 days when using Bluetooth calling, and having the Always-on display active further impacts battery backup. Fortunately, I didn’t feel the need to enable the Always-on display feature as the raise-to-wake function worked well for me and met my needs. With regular use, the smartwatch lasted approximately 5-6 days on a single charge, which is commendable.

While I didn’t make many calls, the device successfully monitored my daily activities, including sleep and a one-hour workout. Once completely drained, the Lava Prowatch ZN can be fully charged from 0-100% in approximately one hour. The package includes a magnetic charging cable that attaches to the back of the watch. However, a power adapter with a USB Type-A port must be bought separately.

Conclusion

The Lava Prowatch ZN is a compelling option in the smartwatch market, standing out for its sleek design, vibrant display, and unique rotating crown feature. It offers an array of health-tracking functionalities at an affordable price point, though there is room for improvement in the accuracy of these metrics. While the app connectivity and user interface could be more polished, the device still delivers solid performance and impressive battery life.

In addition to its health features, the smartwatch provides a diverse range of sports modes, supports Bluetooth calling, and boasts an intuitive interface for easy navigation. These attributes make it a noteworthy entry for Lava into the smartwatch arena. For individuals seeking a cost-effective smartwatch with decent capabilities priced under Rs 3,000, the Lava Prowatch ZN presents a compelling choice worth exploring.
