Realme P1 5G Review 2024

The phone not only boasts a unique brush-stroked-inspired pattern on the back, referred to as the “Sparrow-Feather” design by the company, but it also features a stunning 6.67-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display with an impressive 120Hz refresh rate. This high-quality screen not only offers crisp visuals but also vibrant colors that bring content to life. The AMOLED technology ensures deep blacks and excellent contrast, providing an immersive viewing experience for users whether they are watching videos, playing games, or browsing the web.

About Realme P1 5G Review

The Realme P1 5G excels in performance, making it a great choice for budget-conscious gamers and power users. Alongside its impressive performance, the device stands out with its 120Hz AMOLED display, quality stereo speakers, decent battery life, and effective daylight cameras. Yet, the software performance and low-light photography may fall short for some users.

Realme has had a busy April, launching several new products. The brand introduced the performance-oriented P-series smartphone lineup, starting with the entry-level Realme P1 5G priced at Rs 15,999 in India. This phone boasts hardware such as the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 SoC, UFS 3.1 storage, and LPDDR4X RAM for enhanced performance. It also features a full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2,000 nits.

Design

The Realme P1 5G maintains a similar design to its Realme 12 series counterparts, with the camera module resembling a watch face. However, this time, there is no zip pattern on the rear panel. I tested the Phoenix Red version, which showcases a “feather texture” on the rear panel with feather-like strokes throughout. The Peacock Green option offers a similar design in green. The feather-like patterns are shiny and sparkle in direct light, enhancing the device’s overall attractiveness.

The smartphone is slim and ergonomically designed, weighing only 188g. On the right side, you will find the volume and power buttons, while the top features the 3.5mm jack and a speaker. At the bottom, there is a Type-C port, a speaker grille, and a SIM card tray.

Display

The Realme P1 5G’s standout feature is its impressive display, boasting a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, 100 percent P3 color gamut, and peak brightness of 2000nits. The AMOLED panel enhances the visual experience significantly, offering excellent brightness and visibility in various lighting conditions.

In intense lighting conditions like midday, the screen remains highly readable, enabling seamless tracking of on-screen tasks. The in-display fingerprint sensor responds promptly, facilitating swift unlocking of the phone. The stereo speakers produce sufficient volume, enhancing the multimedia experience. Realme TWS device owners can conveniently access numerous TWS settings from the Bluetooth panel.

Cameras

The Realme P1 5G is equipped with a 50MP Samsung JN1 sensor and an f/1.8 aperture for optics, along with a 2MP B&W lens featuring an f/2.4 aperture. Additionally, it boasts a 16MP front camera for selfies and video calls. When compared to the Moto G64, the Realme P1 5G excels in certain aspects, such as color reproduction in images, although the G64 offers better dynamic range and more detail in shadowy areas in some scenarios.

The main camera of the Realme P1 takes high-quality photos during the day, featuring good levels of detail and sharpness. Colors are enhanced, though the dynamic range may need improvement. HDR mode enhances overall detail in photos. Portrait mode’s performance varied, requiring multiple tries for satisfactory results, sometimes resulting in a slight halo effect around the subject.

The absence of OIS in the camera leads to softer low-light images with reduced detail and noticeable lens flare near light sources. Although night mode is automatically activated, there is a specific option for night photography. When using night mode, details are enhanced, but there may be instances of overexposure in the sky. Video performance is better in daylight than in low light conditions. The Realme P1 rear camera can record up to 4K videos at 30FPS, providing decent stabilization and audio quality, yielding satisfactory results considering its price point.

Performance

Realme asserts that the Realme P1 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7050, positioning it as the swiftest chipset available for under Rs 15,000. Accompanied by up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of USF 3.1 storage, the device offers exceptional performance capabilities uncommon in this price segment, where higher-end smartphones typically feature UFS 2.2 storage. Our evaluation of the smartphone’s performance through various tests validates Realme’s claims, demonstrating top-tier performance within its price category. Below, I will present benchmark figures for comparison with key competitors.

The smartphone excels in daily performance without any delays, smoothly handling all usual tasks. It also delivers impressive gaming capabilities, smoothly running demanding games like COD: Mobile and BGMI at a stable 35 to 40FPS on medium graphic settings. Lower graphical settings significantly enhance the gameplay experience. The AMOLED display enhances vibrancy compared to competitors using IPS panels in the same price range, making it a top choice for gamers.

Software

The Realme P1 5G offers a good performance, but the software experience is a bit of a mixed bag. It runs on Realme UI 5.0 based on Android 14. The user interface is smooth and user-friendly, with some useful features. During setup, Realme suggests numerous apps that you need to deselect to continue. Fortunately, you can uninstall most pre-installed apps if you don’t need them. Removing the ‘Hot Apps’ selection requires additional steps in the Realme App Store. The smartphone lacks app animations, except for Mini Capsule 2.0 animations during music playback and charging, which could enhance the overall look and feel.

Transitioning to what attracts me to the UI, I particularly appreciate the File Dock and floating windows feature, as they enhance the overall software experience. This functionality simplifies file transfers significantly and is likely the most frequently used feature during my interaction with the device. Additionally, the one-handed mode enhances the browsing experience by making it more comfortable. The smartphone is equipped with a Link to Windows function that facilitates seamless connectivity between your PC and smartphone. Moreover, the handset incorporates a rainwater touch feature that, from my testing, operates dependably.

Battery and charging

The Realme P1 5G is powered by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 45W fast charging. In the PC Mark battery test, the smartphone lasted 16 hours and 20 minutes, which is impressive considering its cost. The phone can last a full day with moderate use but heavy usage may require recharging by the end of the day. Using the 45W fast charger provided, charging from 20 to 100 percent takes about 50 minutes.

In our 30-minute YouTube streaming test, the smartphone’s battery decreased by 3 percent, while in our gaming sessions lasting around 90 minutes, it dropped by 19 percent. Experiencing a total battery usage of 22 percent during intensive usage over approximately 2 hours is considered quite impressive. While actively charging, the punch-hole cutout transforms into a dynamic island-style bar, displaying the current charge percentage and enhancing the UI with a nice touch.

Conclusion

Starting at Rs 15,999, the Realme P1 5G offers a compelling package emphasizing performance and visual experience with its 120Hz AMOLED panel. It provides solid performance comparable to higher-priced phones and surpasses similarly priced ones. In addition to outstanding performance and display quality, the smartphone boasts impressive battery life, rapid charging, quality daylight cameras, and a sleek design. With its competitive pricing, the Realme P1 5G is a clear choice for gamers and users focused on performance.

The Realme P1 5G faces competition from rivals such as the newly released Moto G64, POCO X6 Neo, and Vivo T3x 5G. The Moto G64 and Vivo T3x 5G appeal to customers looking for extended battery life with their 6,000mAh batteries and similar charging speeds. Conversely, the POCO X6 Neo boasts a matching 120Hz AMOLED display for an enhanced visual experience. Additionally, the Moto G64 features a stock Android-like interface and superior camera capabilities compared to the Realme P1, establishing it as a strong competitor. Despite this, the Realme P1 stands out for its exceptional performance.
