Aesthetically, the Edge 50 series phones have many design elements in common. The Edge 50 Fusion model features a textured vegan leather back that adds a premium appearance and texture. I particularly like the soft feel of the vegan leather finish on the phone’s back, which prevents it from being slippery to hold. In contrast to certain mid-range phones where the camera sensor rings stick out significantly from the phone’s body, the Edge 50 Fusion has a sleek design with the rings nearly flush with the surface.
This phone is among the thinnest and lightest options in its price range, with dimensions of 7.8mm thickness and 175 grams weight. This makes it easy to use the Edge 50 Fusion with one hand and carry it in a pocket comfortably. The volume buttons and power key are positioned on the right side of the phone, offering easy access and a tactile feel. The handset features a USB Type-C charging port, SIM card slot, and speaker grille at the bottom.
The Edge 50 Fusion is equipped with a 6.7-inch FHD+ (2,400 x 1,080 pixel) Endless Edge 10-bit P-OLED curved display that boasts a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz. I have deliberated over my preference for curved versus flat panel displays. Curved screens offer an immersive viewing experience with content flowing along the edges, while flat panels prevent unwanted reflections and provide a consistent viewing experience.
Although I would have liked a flat display panel on this phone, the multimedia consumption experience on this panel was excellent. The P-OLED panel provided outstanding contrast ratio, making binge-watching TV shows on this device enjoyable. The deep blacks and vibrant colors were particularly impressive. Additionally, the screen’s peak brightness of 1600 nits ensured clear visibility even in direct sunlight.
The 144Hz refresh rate made playing Alto’s Adventure smooth on this device, maintaining a steady frame rate. When playing BGMI, the phone backs Ultra HDR and Ultra frame rate settings without any stutter or frame drop problems. It’s safe to conclude that this handset is a top choice for gaming in its price range, particularly with the Game Hub feature. Game Hub offers tools to improve gaming experience like blocking calls/notifications, disabling adaptive brightness, controlling refresh rate, and the ability to record game clips and take screenshots.
Cameras
The Edge 50 Fusion features a 50MP primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture and 1.0µm pixel size, which can increase to 2.0µm with Ultra Pixel Technology. The camera is equipped with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) for clear photos and videos. Additionally, it has a secondary 13MP ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 aperture and 120-degree field-of-view. The phone also includes a 32MP selfie camera with an f/2.4 aperture and 0.7µm pixel size, extendable to 1.4µm with Quad Pixel Technology. To improve focusing speed and accuracy, the device features a dual-pixel PDAF sensor.
- In the default camera application, you can access Slow motion video, video, Portrait, Pro, and Scan options on the main screen. Additionally, you have the ability to select Spot Colour (Photo and Video), Night Vision, Panorama, Ultra-res, Dual capture (Photo and Video), Photo Booth, Tilt-shift, and Timelapse features.

These settings cater to different needs and preferences, allowing users to customize their shooting experience for optimal results.
- When it comes to the camera’s performance, the main camera captured some remarkable photos. It’s important to mention that the phone tends to enhance colors, making the sky appear bluer, the grass greener, and skin tones more vivid.
- The main camera configuration effectively captured details, especially in Ultra-res mode. The Edge 50 Fusion accurately detected edges in portrait mode.

Through this analysis, I observed that the Edge 50 Fusion excelled in edge detection, whereas the Nothing Phone displayed superior color accuracy and skin tone capture, as demonstrated below. Although you may favor the images taken by the Edge 50 Fusion for social media sharing, the Nothing Phone (2a) provides more precise color replication.
- I came across an unusual issue with the phone where it struggled to capture portrait images using the selfie camera when the phone was in landscape mode. While it worked well in portrait mode, there were issues with landscape orientation such as the inability to apply the bokeh effect or app crashes. It is anticipated that this bug will be fixed in an upcoming software update.

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset powers the Edge 50 Fusion, offering a satisfactory performance for running apps smoothly. However, it is worth noting that there are other handsets with more advanced processors in this price range. The handset achieved a respectable score of 620648 on the AnTuTu benchmark. In Geekbench testing, it scored 1020 in the single-core test and 2945 in the multi-core test, indicating its capability to manage multitasking and demanding applications effectively.
While these tests serve as benchmarks, the outcomes aligned with actual usage scenarios. I observed that the Edge 50 Fusion efficiently managed the workload, excelling in UI animations and app launch speed without any stuttering or inconsistencies. Even when running demanding games, the phone maintained stable frame rates, ensuring a smooth gaming experience. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion operates on the Android 14-based Hello UI. Similar to our review of the Edge 50 Pro, the Hello UI offers a close-to-stock Android experience. Although the Edge 50 Fusion includes some Moto apps pre-installed, there are no third-party applications present upon the initial boot-up of the device.
The device supports a variety of signature gestures from Motorola and Lenovo, along with integrating ThinkShield security and privacy features in the Moto Secure app. It also includes Smart Connect Hero features. For instance, the Ready For app enables mirroring the phone’s display or creating a virtual phone screen on a PC, facilitating the use of the phone’s camera for video calls on a PC. Additionally, it permits launching apps on a Windows PC or laptop to access messages, calls, and more. File transfers between the phone and PC are easily done through this app using a swipe or drag-and-drop method.
In addition, the new features enhance the current ones like Moto Connect, offering a DeX-like experience by reflecting the smartphone screen on an external display. Additionally, Moto Secure, Family Space, and other features are available. Motorola has committed to providing three significant Android updates and four years of security updates for the Edge 50 Fusion, ensuring the handset remains up-to-date for an extended period.
Battery And Charging Speed
The Edge 50 Fusion is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery that supports TurboPower 68W fast charging. During our test, the device went from 20 percent to 100 percent in 54 minutes. But, there’s more to it. The settings include a Charge Boost option that needs manual activation. With this feature, the device charged from 20 percent to full in only 36 minutes. In times of urgency, this function can be incredibly helpful.
During the PCMark battery test, the device had a battery life of 9 hours and 53 minutes, which is comparatively lower in this price category. Based on my usage, the Edge 50 Fusion typically provides a screen-on time averaging around 5-6 hours per full charge. There is a setting in the battery section that allows for AI learning of user behavior to restrict background apps during phone inactivity. While this feature can somewhat enhance the phone’s battery life, it falls behind other devices in the same price range, particularly the Nord CE4.
