OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite Review: Design, Display, Cameras, Performance And Battery

OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite Review: The OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite stands out as OnePlus’s most budget-friendly smartphone offering in 2024, following the success of its predecessor, the OnePlus Nord CE3 Lite. This new generation device comes packed with upgrades, such as an AMOLED display that enhances the visual experience with vibrant colors and deeper contrasts. Additionally, it features a larger battery capacity, ensuring extended usage without adding extra weight or thickness to the phone.

In terms of performance, the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite is equipped with a more powerful processor and enhanced camera capabilities, allowing users to capture high-quality photos and videos. The phone also boasts improved security features and a sleek design that is both stylish and ergonomic for comfortable handling.

OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite Review 2024

The OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite primarily focuses on the display and battery, despite the company emphasizing its “upgraded” camera system. The design has been altered, a change I find appealing, although I would have welcomed a variety of color choices. OnePlus made a bold move by sticking with the same Qualcomm chipset for the past two years. While everyday tasks won’t pose a problem, gaming and demanding activities might need additional power. OnePlus should prioritize enhancing low-light photography in its budget range.

With its competitive price point and impressive specifications, the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite is set to appeal to budget-conscious consumers looking for a reliable and feature-packed smartphone option in 2024. Nonetheless, the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite continues to employ Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 695 SoC. Which is also found in the previous versions Nord CE3 Lite and Nord CE2 Lite of 2022. Although this might not appear significant, in the tech industry, it can be challenging to rationalize since many manufacturers promote newer processors and their functionalities.OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite Review

Prior to commencing, I must admit that I am fond of the design of the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite, regardless of its ranking compared to competitors. Unlike other smartphones in its category that opt for bold and colorful designs to grab attention, the Nord CE4 embraces simple tones and patterns. Although predominantly constructed of plastic, the back of the device offers a sleek finish resembling glass. Despite its affordability, it exudes a premium feel. The main downside is the challenge of keeping it clean, as the shiny back surface tends to attract fingerprint smudges unless the provided clear protective case is utilized.

I reviewed the Mega Blue variant, which has a bold and punchy appearance. OnePlus also offers grey and orange variants, but it could have included white and black for a neater look with the smooth finish. The design seems reminiscent of the iPhone 12 series, featuring vertically stacked dual rear cameras with matching colored rims for consistency. The positioning of the volume and power buttons is ergonomic. The top and bottom of the device have speaker vents, resembling last year’s Nord CE3 Lite. Furthermore, there is a 3.5mm audio jack at the bottom for wired earphones.

The Nord CE4 Lite still lacks the alert slider, a feature I hope to see on more affordable OnePlus phones. OnePlus has begun including an IR blaster in its new smartphones, and we might expect this in a future “Lite” model. The official IP54 certification for water and dust resistance on the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite is a positive development, although its forerunner provides slightly superior protection with an IP55 rating.

The previous Nord CE3 Lite model features a taller display, possibly due to accommodating a larger battery. The Nord CE4 Lite now includes an AMOLED display for enhanced visual quality. It retains a 120Hz refresh rate and Full-HD+ resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. The Nord CE4 Lite presents a notable improvement in viewing experience compared to its predecessor. The AMOLED panel delivers more vibrant reds and deeper blacks, enhancing the visual quality. In terms of outdoor visibility, the Nord CE4 Lite surpasses competitors like the Nord CE3 Lite, iQOO Z9, and Realme P1 with its superior brightness levels.

While the iQOO Z9’s AMOLED display may offer punchier colors for indoor YouTube video consumption, the variance is not substantial. It is important to highlight that these comparisons were made with all smartphones set to the “natural” screen color mode; activating the default vivid mode may result in even more enhanced colors.

The viewing experience on the Nord CE4 Lite is satisfactory, especially given the price compared to competitors. I found the scrolling and gaming experience on the flat display enjoyable. There is an opportunity for the brand to outperform its rivals. Adding HDR playback support in the next version could be beneficial. Enhanced IP rating and a sturdier screen would likely attract more fans and potential customers.

Cameras

The new OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite may appear less impressive in terms of megapixels than its previous model, as it now boasts a 50MP main camera instead of a 108MP sensor. Nonetheless, it is equipped with an enhanced Sony LYT-600 sensor, similar to the one found in the Nord CE4. Additionally, the rear camera setup includes a 2MP camera for better portrait shots, with the macro mode being omitted. The front camera has a resolution of 16MP. Consequently, the phone does not have an ultra-wide camera.

Daylight

The Nord CE4 Lite often adds a warm layer to its photos, resulting in high saturation in various lighting conditions. The camera system enhances shadows to create a more dramatic effect, sometimes leading to loss of details and inconsistent sharpness despite OIS. Overall, the camera performance is decent compared to competitors, producing more natural-looking images with accurate color reproduction and texture detection. The new sensor captures more light, noticeable in comparison to the Nord CE3 Lite.

Low light

The 50MP main camera functions adequately in low-light situations but faces significant challenges in poor lighting. It tends to overly smooth details, leading to a loss of sharpness in images and distorted colors. Contrasting results are noticeable when comparing shots taken with the iQOO Z9. The iQOO phone automatically extends exposure time to enhance light capture and performs exceptionally well when night mode is activated.

Selfies

The Nord CE4 Lite can enhance selfies with a warm layer. I am satisfied with the front camera results as it provides a flawless look without skin imperfections. While some users may prefer this effect, I would prefer it to be done during post-editing if needed. The portrait mode on the front camera excels in edge detection. During my testing, the Nord CE4 Lite produced the most natural bokeh compared to the Nord CE3 Lite, iQOO Z9, and Realme P1. However, it struggles to accurately detect skin tones unlike the Realme P1, which performs exceptionally well.

Video

Video recording is capped at 1080p at 30fps for both front and back cameras. Having 4K recording capability could have provided an advantage. When compared to Nord CE3 Lite, there is a noticeable variance in stability. Nevertheless, smartphones in this price range still have room for improvement in terms of video quality, whether it’s color accuracy or stability.

Performance

The Nord CE4 Lite is equipped with the Snapdragon 695 SoC, which is also found in last year’s OnePlus Nord CE3 Lite. The storage options remain unchanged as well. The entry-level model, featuring 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, is priced at Rs 19,999. On the other hand, the higher-end variant with 256GB of storage, which I am currently evaluating, is priced at Rs 22,999 — a Rs 1,000 increase compared to the original price of the same configuration in the Nord CE3 Lite. This consistency in hardware specifications across models allows users to make informed decisions based on their budget and performance requirements.
