iQOO Z9x 5G Review: The iQOO Z9 5G made quite a splash when it was released a few months back, thanks to its impressive array of features at an affordable price point. Building on this success, the brand has now introduced the iQOO Z9x 5G, a more budget-friendly version of the Z9 5G. As is characteristic of iQOO phones, the focus remains on delivering exceptional performance capabilities.

In terms of specifications, the iQOO Z9x 5G closely resembles the recently launched Vivo T3x, sharing the same processor, camera setup, and battery specifications. Despite these similarities, there are notable distinctions between the two models. For instance, while the Vivo T3x features a mono speaker system, the Z9x boasts an exceptional stereo speaker setup for an enhanced audio experience.

Design & Display

In terms of design, the iQOO Z9x closely resembles the standard Z9, featuring a nearly identical appearance with a similar camera island design. It is offered in Tornado Green and Storm Grey color choices. Our unit is the Tornado Green version, distinguished by brush strokes on the rear panel that shimmer in light. The camera island and chrome edges sport a green tint to complement the back panel, resulting in a stylish and cohesive design. The matte finish of the rear panel effectively minimizes smudges and fingerprints.

Located at the lower part are the vulnerable 3.5mm headphone jack, Type-C port, and a speaker grille. On the right edge, you will see the volume and power buttons, with the SIM tray situated on the left side. The power button serves as a fingerprint sensor, ensuring fast and precise recognition. Additionally, the smartphone boasts IP64 water and dust resistance, a rare feature in its price range, shielding it from dust and providing defense against water splashes.

The iQOO Z9x features a 6.72-inch LCD screen with FHD+ resolution (2,408 x 1,080p), a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 1000 nits. The display provides a satisfactory viewing experience for its price range, offering ample brightness even in very bright conditions. Additionally, the stereo speakers enhance the visual experience by delivering powerful sound.

Cameras

The iQOO Z9x features a 50MP main sensor accompanied by a 2MP bokeh sensor. Additionally, it is equipped with an 8MP front camera for selfies and video calls. The camera excels in capturing detailed and pleasingly colored images in daylight conditions. While the dynamic range is commendable, the HDR mode may lead to occasional overexposure.
In low-light settings, the camera can capture decent images in night mode, but it is advisable to moderate expectations.  The front camera captures decent photos during the day but may blur facial features. In dim lighting, you may need multiple attempts to get a good shot.

Performance & software

The iQOO Z9x is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset and features 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It excels in day-to-day tasks such as social media browsing and video streaming. With impressive AnTuTu and Geekbench scores, it delivers exceptional performance, especially in gaming. The device is suitable for casual gaming and can run demanding games like BGMI and COD: Mobile at High and HD resolutions.

The device operates on Funtouch OS 14, which is built on Android 14. If you have previous experience with an iQOO smartphone, the user experience is very similar. The user interface is sleek and efficiently designed for the 120Hz refresh rate. The manufacturer guarantees 2 years of significant OS upgrades and 3 years of security updates, which is the norm in this price range.

Some intelligent functionalities such as small windows, a smart sidebar, split screen, and others can enhance your daily tasks. The ultra game mode effectively enhances the smartphone’s gaming performance. Should you wish, you can easily uninstall some pre-installed apps and the Hot Apps section.

Battery & charging

The iQOO Z9x is distinguished by its large 6,000mAh battery and 44W fast charging capability. It boasts a long-lasting battery that can power through a full day, even with heavy usage. In the PCMark battery life benchmark test, the smartphone achieved an impressive score of 20 hours and 19 minutes, placing it favorably within its price range.

During our performance evaluations, lasting about 2 hours and covering a range of demanding tasks like gaming and video streaming, the device demonstrated a mere 20 percent decrease in battery life, highlighting its outstanding durability. Additionally, the smartphone’s charging efficiency is impressive, requiring approximately 61 minutes to reach full battery capacity from 20 percent.

Conclusion

The iQOO Z9x is priced at Rs 12,999 for the 4GB + 128GB variant, Rs 14,499 for the 6GB + 128GB variant, and Rs 15,999 for the 8GB + 128GB variant. Its main competitors in the same price range include the Moto G64, POCO X6 Neo, and Realme P1 5G. While the Moto G64 provides a close-to-stock Android UI and a 6,000mAh battery, the POCO X6 Neo and Realme P1 5G offer AMOLED display panels for a better visual experience. Additionally, the Realme P1 5G boasts superior performance compared to the iQOO Z9x.

The iQOO Z9x offers remarkable performance, surpassing many other devices in its price range, along with a good display, long-lasting battery, and stylish design. Although the cameras are not top-notch, they perform decently, and the device’s other strengths make up for this shortfall.
