Display Panel And Picture Quality
The LG QNED83 television model integrates Quantum Dot with NanoCell technologies to deliver vibrant and lifelike images on the screen. Featuring an IPS panel, the TV provides excellent viewing angles, ensuring a great visual experience from various positions. While IPS panels are known for their wide viewing angles, they have traditionally struggled with achieving deep black levels, a factor that will be further explored in subsequent sections of this review.
Available in both 55-inch and 65-inch variants, the LG QNED83 is priced at approximately Rs 94,990 as per the current market rates. The TV is equipped to support popular HDR formats such as HDR 10, Dolby Vision, and HLG, enhancing the contrast and color accuracy of the displayed content. Despite utilizing an edge–lit panel technology, it also incorporates local dimming functionality to minimize blooming effects when transitioning between bright and dark scenes on the screen simultaneously.
4K and HDR Performance
We showcased various content from streaming platforms in HDR 10 and Dolby Vision, and the TV’s performance was highly satisfactory. Watching Top Gun Maverick on Netflix in Dolby Vision, the TV’s high brightness vividly displayed the sun’s glare faced by the pilots. Even in movies with darker color palettes like Rebel Moon, the display quality remained impressive.
Additionally, animated content such as Blue Eye Samurai, known for its cool tones, appeared bright and vivid on the TV.
The main benefit of the LG QNED83 is its effectiveness in a brightly lit room. If you have a room with natural light during the day that cannot be darkened, or if you prefer to have some light on while watching movies, this TV is a great option as it handles glare effectively and offers high brightness.
There is a slight loss of detail in dark HDR content, such as in the sequence from The Dark Knight where Batman kidnaps Lao from Hong Kong. Specifically, there was a noticeable difference in the visibility of details in Batman’s suit between my LG G2 and the QNED83. Although the G2 is pricier, the content remains enjoyable and watchable.
The TV includes a Filmmaker Mode that automatically detects content and displays it as the filmmaker intended. Yet, I discovered that turning off this feature, utilizing the Cinema preset, and deactivating all motion smoothing provided the optimal viewing experience for HDR movies.

SDR Performance
When I watched SDR content, Filmmaker Mode activated, particularly when viewing Young Sheldon on Prime Video. With Filmmaker Mode enabled, the content appeared a bit subdued, which was not necessarily negative. Yet, turning off Filmmaker Mode and adjusting to the standard preset enhanced the content’s vibrancy. While some may prefer the oversaturated colors of the vivid mode, it appears too intense for my taste.
Watching movies in SDR on streaming platforms provided a highly satisfying experience. Spider-Man Homecoming on Netflix appeared impressive on the television screen, particularly the vibrant red and blue colors of Spider-Man’s suit. The intricate black webbing on the suit was also distinctly visible, a detail that some other TVs may not render accurately. It is safe to say that viewers will not be let down when enjoying SDR content from their set-top boxes or streaming services.
Gaming Performance
When it comes to gaming, the TV is equipped with four HDMI ports, two of which are HDMI 2.1 enabled, offering features such as 4K at 120Hz, ALLM, and VRR. One of these HDMI 2.1 ports is designed for eARC to connect a soundbar, leaving a single port for devices like Apple TV 4K, PS5, Xbox Series X, or an NVIDIA 40 series GPU-powered laptop or desktop. While it would have been preferable to have four HDMI 2.1 ports like LG’s OLED C and G series, the Sony X90L model only includes two HDMI 2.1 ports. LG provides an impressive gaming user interface on their TVs. Users can view the framerate, adjust settings for different room lighting conditions, and more to enhance the gaming experience. Additionally, the UI features an FPS counter for added convenience.
When you connect a PS5 or Xbox Series X to the TV, it automatically switches to the appropriate mode. I suggest calibrating the console with the TV by adjusting the brightness in the console’s HDR settings for the optimal gaming experience. We enjoyed playing a variety of games such as Doom Eternal and Gears 5 on the Series X, and Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man 2, and Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart on the PS5. The gaming experience on the TV was exceptional. Dirt 5, an HGiG (HDR Gaming Interest Group) game, displayed perfect brightness without burn-in issues that some other TVs face after calibration. This TV allows you to enjoy HDR games to the fullest.
Spider-Man 2 featured vibrant colors and provided an immersive experience. Doom Eternal on the Series X ran at a seamless 120FPS, offering a great input latency experience. The Series X and LG QNED83 both support Dolby Vision gaming. While playing Gears 5 in Dolby Vision mode, I noticed a slight loss of detail in dark scenes, but this might be nitpicking.
Audio Performance
Although the TV’s gaming performance is satisfactory, the audio quality falls short. For instance, in Doom Eternal, the intense background music sounds fantastic through the TV speakers, but the lack of bass when shooting your shotgun may leave you somewhat underwhelmed.
This also applies to movies. Viewing movies on television provides a satisfactory experience with clear dialogues and audible background scores, but lacks the powerful bass. The speakers perform well for daily content consumption. Utilizing the AI sound mode eliminates the need to adjust sound settings manually as it adjusts automatically based on the content. Although the TV is compatible with Dolby Atmos and can deliver loud, room-filling sound. It does not create the sensation of sound coming from above or behind the viewer.

UI
LG’s smart TVs feature a top-notch UI compared to competitors. Complete with a magic remote that functions like a computer mouse for easy navigation. The UI is quick and efficient, offering content suggestions across the screen with a central row of streaming apps for easy access.
I particularly like the settings menu on the TV. By pressing the settings button on the remote control, you can access all the important settings on the left side of the screen. These settings cover picture, sound, panel brightness, sound output, game optimizer, and more. The navigation is very convenient, and adjusting settings displays real-time changes on a large portion of the screen. Which is helpful for making picture adjustments.
