Setup And Connectivity
The ASUS MD200 arrived when it was most needed. Despite my constant exposure to laptops and my interest in reviewing them, I often find the setup tedious. This involves tasks like downloading BIOS updates, drivers, benchmarking tools, games along with their launchers, and other necessary software. The absence of clear navigation makes this procedure particularly challenging on a Windows gaming device.
Fortunately, I utilized the MD200’s Bluetooth multipoint capability while configuring several Windows handheld devices. The MD200 is compatible with Bluetooth 5.0 and can connect to three devices simultaneously. Additionally, it includes a 2.4GHz dongle for seamless wireless connection without latency.
While we’re discussing it, setting up the mouse is very simple. You can switch between connectivity modes by toggling a switch on the bottom. When in Bluetooth mode, an LED above ‘1’ indicates one of three Bluetooth profiles. Pressing and holding the pair button next to it activates pairing for the chosen profile. Pressing the pair button once allows access to the other two Bluetooth profiles.
Usage and Performance
I was pleased with the MD200’s performance in Bluetooth mode. It quickly switches between profiles, eliminating the need for delays. However, Bluetooth may experience more latency and connectivity issues compared to 2.4GHz. For added security, you can also use the wireless dongle with the mouse. Even then, the performance was exceptional, thanks to the 4,200 DPI optical sensor accurately tracking movements. The ASUS MD200 features a reliable 4,200 DPI optical sensor suitable for various surfaces, including glass. Testing it on a glass countertop, I was satisfied with the cursor’s movements. The mouse can save two DPI settings in its memory for easy switching using the dedicated button.
The mouse features clicky shoulder buttons on its left side that can be customized using the Armory Crate app. The app allows users to modify DPI settings, monitor battery life, and update firmware. Changing the polling rate is only possible when the mouse is connected to the PC with the dongle. The left and right buttons of the MD200 are tactile and durable, with a rating of up to 10 million clicks. However, the scroll wheel lacks distinct notches, impacting scrolling accuracy compared to the Logitech G304 gaming mouse.
The mouse has an ergonomic design with a prominent hump that would appeal to palm grip users. Despite being somewhat heavy, extended use didn’t lead to wrist fatigue. It includes a comfortable thumb rest on the left side but is designed exclusively for right-handed users. ASUS has added an antibacterial guard that claims to reduce bacterial growth significantly. The mouse also comes with a lanyard for portability, although its usefulness may vary. The battery life is impressive, lasting up to a year on a single AA cell without any noticeable decrease in performance.

Verdict
The ASUS SmartO Mouse MD200 is currently available for Rs 2,499. For its discounted price, the mouse makes for a compelling buy. It offers an ergonomic design and tactile buttons. It pairs seamlessly with various devices and has a mighty battery backup, too. If anything, I would like ASUS to address the spongy scroll wheel with the MD200’s next iteration.
