Through his role in the movie Mashaal as a Tapori (a rowdy), he rose to prominence and popularity in Bollywood. When his action film Tejaab came out in 1988, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor Performance. His first sci-fi film, Mr. India, was released in 1987. It starred Sri Devi, a well-known actress, and made him a star in the industry. The well-known 2001 film was directed by Anil Kapoor Nayak: The Real Hero, a political drama starring Johnny Lever, Amrish Puri, and Rani Mukerji. For a 3D fighting scene, Anil trained in the gym for seven months.
