Tecno Spark 20C Review 2024

The Tecno Spark 20C boasts several standout features, with its stereo speakers being a notable highlight. These speakers, supported by DTX technology, deliver impressive sound quality that remains clear and loud even at maximum volume, with minimal distortion. In addition to the exceptional audio experience, the phone sports an eye-catching design and a smooth 90Hz display that enhances visual clarity and responsiveness. Furthermore, the Tecno Spark 20C offers reliable battery backup, ensuring that users can stay connected and productive throughout the day without constantly needing to recharge.

The smartphone’s daylight cameras provide satisfactory performance, capturing decent quality images in various lighting conditions. While the Tecno Spark 20C excels in many aspects, it does have some limitations. The device falls slightly short in terms of overall performance compared to some competitors in its price range. Additionally, it lacks 5G capabilities, which may be a drawback for users seeking faster connectivity speeds for data-intensive tasks. Despite these drawbacks, the Tecno Spark 20C remains a compelling option for those prioritizing audio quality, design aesthetics, display smoothness, and long-lasting battery life in a smartphone.

Design

The design of the Spark 20C is quite appealing, particularly the Magic Skin Green version I have. The faux leather back not only hides fingerprints and smudges well but also enhances its distinct charm. While it may gather some dirt over time, a simple wipe with a damp cloth can easily restore the rear panel to its original look. The device feels comfortable to hold and weighs a balanced 189g.

The 50MP primary lens, AI lens, and flash unit are located on the rear panel. The camera deco has a gold metallic coating that matches the flat edges, creating an attractive look. The device includes dual stereo speakers, a Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The power and volume buttons are situated on the right edge, and the SIM card tray is on the left. Additionally, the power button doubles as a fingerprint scanner, providing quick and effective phone unlocking.

Display

Coming to the display, the phone equips a 6.56-inch LCD panel with a refresh rate of 90Hz, 180Hz touch response, and HD+ (720 x 1,612) resolution. The panel has thin bezels around the edges with a slightly protruding bottom chin, which is typical at this price point. The display delivers a satisfactory visual experience but has limited visibility due to low brightness levels. Even cranked to the maximum, the brightness is acceptable only for indoor use, as visibility is further diminished under direct sunlight or in very bright environments

The dual speakers, however, massively help improve the multi-media experience on the device. The speakers come with DTS support and claim to offer 400 percent high-quality volume output. Naturally, such a claim made me excited to test these out and I was not disappointed. The speakers are indeed impressively loud. Now, there’s a bit of distortion at maximum volume, but it’s within an acceptable range that doesn’t detract from the experience. Watching shows and videos on this device was a blast.

Cameras

The Tecno Spark 20C features a 50MP main camera along with a 0.08MP secondary camera. For selfies and video calls, there is an 8MP front camera. In daylight, the camera produces satisfactory photos with vivid colors, though slightly enhanced, and decent details. While some detail loss may occur at the edges, the overall outcome is satisfactory. The camera offers 2x digital zoom, which performs effectively. In low-light conditions, images appear softer with noticeable grain. The AI camera recognizes low light and switches to ‘Night view’, but the resulting images are often inconsistent and may require multiple attempts to achieve satisfactory quality. As there is no dedicated night mode, the images lack the appeal that could have been achieved with long-exposure shots.

The Tecno Spark 20C features a primary lens of 50MP along with a 0.08MP auxiliary lens. For selfies and video calls, there is an 8MP front camera. In well-lit conditions, the camera captures vibrant colors with some enhanced saturation and decent details, although there may be some loss around the edges. The overall performance is satisfactory, with the added feature of 2x digital zoom. In low light, images appear softer with noticeable graininess. The AI camera recognizes low-light situations and activates ‘Night view’, but the results are inconsistent and often require multiple attempts to achieve satisfactory quality since there is no dedicated night mode available. This absence affects the appeal of the images, which could have been improved with long-exposure shots.

There is a Memfusion feature that can increase the RAM virtually to a total of 16GB. Activating this boost leads to improved performance, reducing occasional lags during browsing and slightly enhancing gaming performance. While there is a noticeable difference, it is not significant. In terms of gaming, the device is best suited for casual gaming and can handle graphically demanding games like BGMI and Call of Duty: Mobile, but the gameplay experience is not enjoyable even on the lowest graphical settings. The device runs on HiOS, a version of Android 13.0. It includes pre-installed apps that can be either removed or disabled. The OS is user-friendly and offers features such as a smart panel, Dynamic Port, game mode, and more to improve user experience.

The combination of a sizable battery capacity and rapid charging technology enhances. The overall user experience by providing reliable power backup and quick recharging options. The Tecno Spark 20C achieved a battery life of 14 hours and 9 minutes in the PC Mark test, falling within the expected range for its price point. It takes approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes for the include 18W charger to fully recharge. The device from 0 to 100 percent, a common timeframe for this price category.

Final Verdict

The Tecno Spark 20C is priced at Rs 8,999 and meets several important requirements, making it a strong choice in its category. However, it lacks in performance, screen brightness, and 5G capability. Competing models like the Moto G24 Power and POCO M6 5G outperform it, with the latter having 5G connectivity. For just Rs 500 more, the itel P55 5G offers superior performance and 5G support. Additionally, the Realme C53 and Moto G24 Power provide faster 30W charging compared to the Tecno Spark 20C.

The Spark 20C also has several advantages. It features a sleek 90Hz display, decent daylight cameras, reliable battery life, and a distinctive faux leather design. However, its most notable feature is the impressive stereo speakers that significantly elevate the multimedia experience.
