Design And Display

• The Tecno Camon 30 5G comes with a “Nature Flow Texture Glass” design on the back, which is essentially a mix of a grainy matte and glossy finish. The brand claims that this design manages to capture nature’s complex textures, from the Uyuni salt flats to Iceland’s volcanic lava. The distinct look of the phone definitely catches the eye right away and looks appealing.
• The rounded camera setup at the back of the phone comes with a fluted bezel on the sides. This design choice gives the phone a premium look.
• Instead of placing the LED flash module within the camera bump, the brand has included it outside (adjacent to the camera setup).
• On the top left at the back, there is a red indicator light. This light can be used to indicate multiple functions – When Ella (AI) or IR is enabled, incoming calls, and charging.
• The handset measures 165.37×75.93×7.83mm, which makes it easy to hold and use even with one hand. However, as the Camon 30 5G weighs around 199g, it feels a bit on the heavier side. Having said that, the phone does feel sturdy and the build quality is pretty good.
• The power and volume buttons are conveniently located on the right spine of the phone while you get the SIM card slot on the left. At the bottom, you’ll find the USB Type-C charging slot and speaker grille. At the top, there is an IR blaster.
• At the front, you are treated to a 6.78-inch FHD+AMOLED (2,436 x 1,080 pixels) display with a hole-punch design and a maximum refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Thanks to the extremely thin bezels on the side of the display, you get an immersive viewing experience.
• With a peak brightness of 1300 nits, the phone’s display holds up really well even under direct sunlight. I used the phone outdoors and had no issues with visibility.
• While the display feels slightly oversaturated, I was impressed with the quality on offer here. Whether you’re playing games or watching videos, with the AMOLED panel you already know you will get inky blacks and vibrant colours.
• Thanks to the high refresh rate panel, navigation within the UI and the apps feels extremely smooth.
• The viewing angles are pretty decent too. Overall, I was impressed by the display quality and didn’t face any issues.

Cameras

• The Camon 30 5G provides a 50MP main camera featuring a 1/1.57-inch sensor size and OIS, accompanied by a 2MP depth sensor and a light sensor. It also includes dual flash assistance to enhance low-light photography.
• The brand highlighted the camera performance of the phone, prompting me to take numerous photos to assess its optical capabilities. Despite the AI branding, the phone did not enhance colors like other phones in its price range.
• The skies weren’t unusually blue, the grass wasn’t overly green, and the camera accurately represented skin tones. Tecno’s technology ensured precise skin tone capture. This color accuracy also applied to non-human subjects, preventing oversaturation that could detract from the original shot’s essence, making the color accuracy stand out.
• In portrait shots, the phone managed to detect edges really well.
• The main camera sensor captured detailed shots, especially in the 100MP mode, and the OIS feature helped maintain video stability. While there was some shake in videos shot by hand, they were generally usable.
• In low-light scenarios, and at night, the phone managed to click good shots without grain even in the default ‘AI Cam’ mode. This is enabled by the large f/1.88 aperture size of the primary sensor. With Super Night mode, the images clicked in the same scenarios turned out to be even better.
• The sky shots were free of any banding, and the sky shop mode enabled me to utilize various filters. In addition to sky shop mode, other camera modes include dual video, portrait, panorama, slow-motion, time-lapse, AR shot, documents, and Pro mode.
• Within the portrait mode, you get several beautification features such as AI Smart Body, Slim Body, Slim Head, Slim Shoulder, Slim Waist, Plump butt (your read that right!), slim legs, and lengthen legs.
• In the default camera app, you can choose from three main filters: Standard, Bright, and CAMON. Personally, I favored the CAMON filter, but feel free to choose whichever you prefer.
• The phone is equipped with a 50MP high-definition front camera that includes AutoFocus and Dual Colour Temperature Flash for assistance. Furthermore, the front camera supports “advanced” eye-tracking technology and performs well in capturing skin tones, similar to the rear camera. Thanks to the high-resolution sensor, the phone is capable of capturing detailed selfies.
• As the selfie camera offers a reliable performance, it can easily be used by those who click a lot of selfies or want to try vlogging.
• I compared the primary camera setup of the phone with the Infinix GT 20 Pro to determine which one took superior photos. The Camon 30 5G accurately captured colors and more details than the GT 20 Pro.

Performance And Software

• The Camon 30 5G, which runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7020 5G chipset, does not stand out as one of the top-performing smartphones in its price range. When it comes to performance, rivals like the Infinix GT 20 Pro, OnePlus Nord CE4, and Motorola Edge 50 Fusion surpass it in both benchmarks and real-world usage.
• While I didn’t face any major issues like hiccups, delays, or app crashes during my use, the phone’s performance didn’t measure up to that of the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion, which I had recently assessed.
• The phone achieved a score of 513359 in the AnTuTu benchmark, indicating its capability to manage everyday tasks and casual gaming.
• While playing BGMI on my phone, I observed that it offers high-definition (HD) graphics settings at the highest level. Nonetheless, competing smartphones in a similar price range offer Ultra HDR as an alternative, leading to a slightly reduced graphics quality despite the seamless gameplay experience.
• This phone would be perfectly fine for anyone who uses it for everyday tasks and some light gaming. If you’re more into gaming, a phone like the Infinix GT 20 Pro could be a better option.
• The Camon 30 5G runs on the HiOS skin based on Android 14 when switching to software. This grants users access to features such as Dynamic Port, Floating Windows, MemFusion, Smart Panel, Smart Hub, App Twin, and Kids mode.
• The AI assistant Ella can be accessed either by voice commands or by pressing the power button. I have observed that the AI assistant may not always be dependable. For example, when I asked it to set an alarm for 3 pm every weekday the next week, it mistakenly set it for 12 am on the same day. Even after repeating the command, the assistant asked for the time once more, even though it was already provided. When I mentioned this issue, the assistant tried to change the topic of conversation.
• HiOS offers a polished interface with few pre-installed apps. The animations and user interface navigation are smooth and quick to respond.
• The company has pledged to offer software and security updates for a duration of 3 years.

Battery life And Charging Speeds

The Tecno Camon 30 5G is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 70W fast charging. In our test, the phone took approximately 46 minutes to charge from 20 percent to 100 percent. Indicating that you can charge it while getting ready and have it fully charged when you are done.

When I used the phone, it had a strong battery life, particularly in standby mode. I could use the screen actively for 7-8 hours, and during the PCMark battery test. The Camon 30 5G lasted 11 hours and 10 minutes. In everyday use, the phone can comfortably last over a day.
