Yamaha TW-ES5A Buds Review: Biker enthusiasts and music enthusiasts have strong feelings for the Yamaha brand. The Yamaha TW-ES5A, a brand-new pair of truly wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds, was introduced in India last month by the Japanese company as a continuation of this tradition. We plan to review all of Yamaha’s new wireless products to see how they compare. I’ve looked at the L700A earphones and their TW-E7B genuine remote headphones. The TW-ES5A is one of their more prudent models that has emerged, and it’s additionally made for sports.

Yamaha is one such brand that holds its own personality among both bikers and music sweethearts. This time, the company enters the audio market with the Yamaha TW-ES5A TWS earbuds, which are priced at Rs 15,700 and designed with active users in mind. It has a large triangular body and several silicone fins. This has a lot of unique features, like Listening Care, which says it makes it easier for the ears to hear. It is estimated that it played with the case for 34 hours total.

Yamaha TW-ES5A Buds Review

The Yamaha TW-ES5A’s design is unusual. The case is not very pocketable and looks like a small briefcase. The case is made of soft plastic, which is easy to scratch, and it opens up to show the earbuds inside. The case’s mechanism for opening and closing is not very satisfying, and the lid is also loose. There are up to five color options available for the Yamaha TW-ES5A. For review, I received the turquoise color option, which easily removed stains.

Build quality & Design

We love introducing people to the Yamaha TW-ES5A and seeing how they react to its case. Everyone uttered the unambiguous question, “Hey, why are you giving me a bar of Cinthol in the name of TWS buds?” This is to be blamed on the extremely pale turquoise color of the case and the buds. The TW-ES5A’s case and buds are both big and chunky, which is the overall design theme. The case is made of dull, delicate touch plastic and isn’t precisely pocketable. The outer shell of the buds is made of shiny plastic, while the side that faces the ear tips is made of matte black plastic. This gives the buds a dual-tone look. We were reminded of the first truly wireless buds from 2015 and 2016 by the overall weight of the case and buds.

There are only three physical buttons on each of the buds, and there are no surfaces on the buds that are touch-sensitive. Despite our admiration for the buttons’ tactile quality, their mapping is a little off. Single pressing the left bud’s button pauses and plays a track, and double pressing it changes the ambient listening mode. The right bud has two buttons that allow you to interact with the voice assistant, skip a track, increase or decrease the volume, and skip forward one track. Because the left bud is the only one that can pause or play tracks, you can only use it to use a single bud, and you can’t skip songs. Also, the accompanying app doesn’t let you change the button mapping, which made us realize how we take touch controls on other TWSes for granted.

Design 3

The buds fit perfectly, and there is no way they can be taken off in any circumstance. The package includes numerous ear tips and fins of varying styles. In fact, the design of the fins is among the best in the industry. Even in heavy rain, the seal is so good that water can’t get into your ear canal with these. Since they are also IPX7-certified, they are dust- and water-resistant. These are uncomfortable to wear for extended periods of time due to the weight of the buds. Because these enormous turquoise triangles protrude from your ears, they also make you look hideous in social settings. The case’s lid is a little flimsy, and even after you close it, you can still see the light coming from the buds’ LEDs.

Sound Quality

High-end audio equipment typically has flatter sound profiles, which we find to be the most natural way to reproduce music, as the producer intended. Within the equalizer, flatter profiles can also be easily altered. However, the entire spectrum lacks the glitz and glam of high-end buds here. This may be in part due to the 6-millimeter dynamic drivers, which are small even by budget-budget-budget standards. These small drivers also significantly reduce the overall loudness of the buds. SBC, AAC, and Qualcomm aptX are supported as codecs.

We were surprised to learn that the TW-ES5A does not offer active noise cancellation; instead, it only has an ambient mode that lets you use the onboard microphones on each of the buds to listen to your surroundings. The good news is that at least this works well, especially in a gym where losing your hearing can cause spectacular mishaps. Advanced Listening Care, which ensures accurate frequency reproduction even at low volumes so you don’t have to listen to music at high volumes, is a feature that is heavily promoted here. This functions admirably, yet the buds don’t get all that uproarious. However, that is the cost of maintaining your hearing for a longer period of time, right?

On the buds, we listened to a wide range of content, including movies, podcasts, and music. The experience was just average for buds this price. Although the soundstage is surprising large, the bass, as we mentioned earlier, does not quite penetrate your soul. We used Apple Music to listen to music on a Google Pixel 7 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Flip 4 at the highest possible bitrate. During a noisy park walk, we listened to French Montana’s most recent hit, Unforgettable, to try something upbeat. Although the mids and highs were well-balanced, the song’s catchy beats’ vibrations were greatly missed. Increasing the equalizer’s lower frequencies somewhat restored some of the power.

Smart Features

You can connect the TW-ES5A to your smartphone via Bluetooth, but in order to access the equalizer, ambient sound, listening care, and gaming modes, you will need to download the Yamaha Headphone Control app for iOS or Android. We are linking the app because it is easy to mistake it for the very different Yamaha Headphones Controller app.

Because there are only four settings to adjust, the app is extremely simple to use, and the pairing process is quick. The Google Collaborator functions as expected – holding down the in addition to fasten on the right bud gathers it, and you can provide it orders in any event, when your telephone is secured in your pocket, a convenient component to have while you’re working out or playing.

Battery Life

The Yamaha TW-ES5A’s battery ratings are impressive and completely accurate. The case adds an additional 25 hours of backup, while the buds provide approximately nine hours of playtime on their own. These figures are potential on account of the huge size of both the buds and the charging case and conceivably as a result of the more modest driver size.

These buds easily lasted us a week of use given how much we used them. Additionally, the buds have quick charging capabilities, enabling a ten-minute charge to provide an hour’s worth of listening time. The TW-ES5A is one of the longest-lasting buds we’ve ever examined based solely on these numbers. Even if the charging case’s dimensions had been stretched by just a few centimeters, it could have easily functioned as a portable power bank.

Conclusion

Yamaha may have found a huge opportunity in the highly competitive market for premium active TWS buds, but they haven’t quite produced a product that can justify the price. TWS technology has come a long way, and the Sony WF-1000XM4s or the new Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, both of which offer excellent fit, comfort, and sound quality for roughly the same price, are easily available. The latter even has the same resistance to water under IPX7 as the TW-ES5A.

With the exception of its battery and possibly the winged ear tips, the Yamaha TW-ES5A lacks power in every way. However, we are also confident that the brand aficionados will still find a way to justify their purchase. All things considered, our most memorable guitar, synth and mics were all Yamahas. Having said that, we are anticipating more options for outdoorsy TWS buds in the same price range that are comparable to one another. For the time being, there are alternatives like the Bose Sport Earbuds, which have great sound quality and fit well but don’t last all week. The Sennheiser Sport TWS, which retails for less than Rs 10,000 and offers roughly the same package, is also an option.
