WWE 2K23 PC Review: Pile-Driving Fun

WWE 2K23 PC Review: A brief flashback to my childhood days spent pounding buttons on Playstation 2 controllers at a nearby gaming cafe brings a sweet little smile to my face whenever I think of WWE games. WWE Smackdown vs. Raw on THQ: Back in the day, Here Comes the Pain was one of the most groundbreaking video games I had ever seen. Then came the WWE games released recently by Take-Two Interactive subsidiary 2K, which completely rewrote the rules.

This franchise has undergone numerous positive and negative transformations over the years. However, the ongoing legacy was hindered by a recent incident involving WWE 2K20. The developers were forced to take a year-long break because of this. WWE 2K22 (Review) marked the epic return of the series, just like WWE Superstars. Now, Visual Concepts intends to add package-enhancing enhancements to the subsequent iteration to make it a little more polished. The end product is WWE 2K23, which unquestionably surpasses its predecessor in terms of quality of life improvements and a new point of view. This is our evaluation.

WWE 2K23 PC Review

F1’s presently used slogan appears to be “Evolution, not revolution.” This is a fantastic method to introduce the most recent WWE game from 2K, which is released annually. WWE 2K23 might only be adding a little conservatory and some paint to the walls of 2K22 instead of a whole guest/pool home. The first of the Big Papa H era, there is only one significant example of a player who, while technically still in the game, was very obviously pulled out around December (and came back in January). Due to this, 2K23 may be the game with the highest concurrent state.

In fact, 2K23 is also making some potshots that, if Titan Towers weren’t being terraformed by Terra Ryzing, I believe some people would find audacious. The Prototype, an anime lover who would rule and dominate WWE for more than 20 years, is the subject of this year’s showcase mode. Although this time around you are not the cover star, but Vin Diesel’s very white brother. Despite the jokes, it’s intriguing to watch John as he describes his career over a few matches rather than playing as him. Of course, that Chicago summer isn’t the best part. However, this year’s changes don’t stop with the showcase mode.

Pricing and System Requirements

WWE 2K23 is accessible on a variety of gaming platforms, including the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox Series X and Series S. Sadly, crossplay still isn’t supported in the game. On a computer with an AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 32GB of RAM, and a GTX 1660 Super, we tested the game.

The cost of the game varies depending on the platform. The PC version is available on Steam for a starting price of Rs 3,399. The version we tested, though, was the Deluxe Edition, which essentially grants access to DLCs and a tonne of additional features like MyFaction cards and packs.

WWE 2K23 PC Review

World Wrestling Entertainment’s WWE 2K23 is finally here, and it has all the glitz, glitz, and excitement that it is known for. The company’s most recent entry into the gaming industry had a lot to live up to, whether you call it “Sports Entertainment” or “Professional Wrestling.” While 2K20 didn’t go as planned, 2K22 was more of a comeback. The current title has been a joy to play, whereas the previous entry was enjoyable. It’s pretty obvious that WWE 2K23 was written and made by people who know what the product is all about. Everything, from the conversation to the posts on social media, just feels right. This has been an incredible experience for a long-time fan of the Sport of Kings like myself, despite a few minor issues that merit discussion.

WWE 2K23 Review: Plethora Of Game Modes

Whether you’re a first-timer like me or an experienced WWE gamer, WWE 2K23 has a lot to offer. That’s a good thing, but at first glance it can be a little overwhelming. Starting with “Play,” you can see a slew of options for gamers to warm up or just let off steam after a long day. You can enjoy one up against one, two versus two, etc with choices for tender loving care, Damnation in a Cell, Regal Thunder, and the typical temporary fad of modes that can frequently be found on WWE games.

I usually started with these matches to get into the mood before switching to other modes. In addition, I found that I played War Games more frequently than not. Similar to Hell in a Cell, it features six wrestlers causing total chaos but takes a different approach. It is best to experience it firsthand.

Showcase

After that, Showcase, developed by 2K, is one of the best ways to explore the game from the inside out. The publishers and developers of these games are aware that the players are young people who used to enjoy watching WWE live on television while in school and college. In the midst of all of that, they might also have picked off a few finishers from their siblings. To put it simply, this mode allows you to relive important moments in the career of a WWE Superstar.

Even though that sounds pretty straightforward and straightforward, they changed the perspective this time, which may have given this game an advantage over its predecessor. Showcase portrayed Rey Mysterio, the king of athleticism, in WWE 2K22. John Cena, an even more well-known WWE wrestler, is on display this time around. And yes, we can see him before you say it. However, this year’s twist is that, unlike last year, you can take on opponents of John Cena who lost. We normally focus on wins, but this year’s Showcase focuses on losses, which is a completely different approach to this mode.

Before entering each match, John Cena himself gives beautiful promos in conjunction with this. It hits right on the nostalgia itch thanks to a massive archive of old matches and accurate storytelling. Having to play with the same character throughout the story can get a little boring, so this change is welcome. You can play as Kurt Angle, The Undertaker, Rob Van Dam, and other well-known WWE characters with this. A spokesperson for Visual Concepts claimed that this was their most successful Showcase to date.

MyRise

With vengeance on their minds, additional modes such as “MyRise” make an appearance here as well. MyRise is like the career modes in other sports games like NBA or FIFA. With two new modes, “The Lock” and “The Legacy,” it offers a more refined overall experience in comparison to WWE 2K22. Spending some time with this is yet another worthwhile addition to the single-player catalog. The first storyline centers on a male wrestler who is close to making his RAW debut. Both storylines are original. With plenty of costumes to choose from, you can personalize the player to your liking.

You immediately find yourself in the ring with an Intercontinental Champion when you begin this journey. You will be the “next big thing” if you win this round. When it comes to “The Lock,” there are many similarities between the two. It kicks you back to John Cena’s Thugonomics days with a chain around his neck and rhymes with “The Rock.” In “The Legacy,” you take on the role of a female wrestler who must escape the shadow cast by her WWE Superstar Aunt and make her own name in the universe. The fact that the two journeys are at opposite ends of the rope enhances the entire experience.

MyFaction

This time around, MyFaction also receives a slight boost. Technically, this mode is comparable to FIFA’s Ultimate Team. It is a card-based game in which you create a small squad, or faction, of male and female wrestlers who fight week in and week out to complete challenges and earn rewards. This year, you can compete against online players with your team. That’s a good thing, but players can also spend real money on cards to strengthen their faction. People who don’t pay for the game run the risk of losing every day because of this. WWE 2K23 isn’t the only game with a pay-to-win system, and it’s not the only one.

WWE Universe and MyGM

Universe offers two distinct modes, Superstar Mode and Classic Mode, that let you make your own rules. The first lets you follow and control a particular WWE Universe superstar. You can try your luck against a variety of opponents, compete for the title, and eventually establish yourself. The Classic Mode, on the other hand, is your typical and original sandbox mode, giving you complete control over rosters, schedules, arenas, and more, as the name suggests.

Last but not least, the MyGM mode is a whole world on its own, and if you’re a first-timer, it can definitely be overwhelming. It basically lets you become General Manager (GM) of one of the WWE shows. You won’t have to worry about sticking to budgets or keeping up with Superstars because of this, but you will be in control. You can now save up to six superstars for the upcoming season and add up to three more friends. In addition to these single-player missions, the Online mode lets you compete against real-world opponents. You can make your own lobbies and compete against other players, or you can simply enter quick play for an instant unranked battle. However, due to Japan’s approximately 140ms ping, we frequently experienced latency issues. Reversals and missing hooks occurred as a result.

WWE 2K23 Review: Graphical Refinements and Combat Mechanics

The way a game like WWE 2K23 handles combat could set it apart. It does a good job of most things, especially when compared to previous iterations; however, there is still room for improvement. If this is your first time playing the game, a clear and concise tutorial will walk you through the basics. There won’t be many surprises here for those who have already played WWE 2K22. Although the Superstar HUD at the bottom of your screen helps you determine the match’s entire outcome, it can initially be a bit confusing.

It’s very detailed, shows you how your finisher and signature moves are progressing, and it keeps track of how much damage the superstar is getting. Like in real life, the entire game is based on stamina. As you take damage, a red bar indicates depleted stamina, indicating trouble. In this scenario, a single blow to the face could send you to the ground with almost no chance of escaping a pinfall or submission. Your finisher level is indicated by a set of three yellow bars.

You can also do a lot of things with the special bar that can help you win the game. The old compensation choices are here, however you don’t need to simply rely upon Strength to escape the lock now. You can immediately recover from attacks or play possum before landing a surprise uppercut, which is advantageous from a defensive standpoint. In terms of attacks, you have the option of performing a signature move on the opponent, which may ultimately result in a finisher move. Because there are so many linked combos in WWE games, the controls have always been a little overbearing and overwhelming. Also, depending on the Superstar, you can use a set of combo buttons to perform specific attacks. Pressing “X” works for a light attack, while hitting “A” takes a little longer to perform a heavy attack than the former.

In general, we can observe significant advancements in the mechanics and graphics department, echoing the WWE 2K20 edition. While WWE 2K22 was an improvement already, the developers ensured that everything worked well in WWE 2K23.

Conclusion

WWE 2K23 is an incremental improvement over the previous year, but these enhancements introduce a new perspective for the game that may lead to even better outcomes in the future. This year’s version of WWE 2K22 continues the legacy that has been established by this series. In terms of graphics, the game stands head and shoulders above the others in the series. With a few tweaks to the mechanics, combat also feels much snappier and more responsive. Even more impressive is the fact that, despite its overwhelming nature, the game is beginner-friendly and provides a number of tutorials to guide you through the catalog.
