The dynamic range is excellent, resulting in well-defined shadows and preserved highlights. Outdoors, the colors are vibrant while they appear slightly muted in office settings. However, the white balance remains consistently accurate.
The images taken with the 12.5MP camera are free from noise and display an abundance of detail, creating an appealing organic look. It’s important to note that due to the combination of a large sensor and bright lens, the depth of field can be quite shallow. This can create a desired effect but may also cause some subjects to be out of focus. Personally, we prefer a shallower depth of field as it enhances nearby subjects and overall, we are pleased with the results.
The photos taken in full resolution do contain slightly more detail, but this is not a significant enough reason to choose that shooting method. When zooming in to 4.3x (or the equivalent of 100mm), the quality remains excellent. The telephoto lens captures images with fine textures and contrasting edges, resulting in a natural look. There is no visible noise present. The dynamic range is outstanding, and the colors are vibrant without being excessive. Using the 2x zoom level significantly maximizes the potential of the 50MP camera, producing excellent photos that are equivalent to those taken with a dedicated 2x camera on a smartphone, and possibly even better. The level of detail at the pixel level is remarkably high, capturing intricate elements such as balcony blinds, tree twigs, and grass strands with precision. Noise levels do not increase, and all global parameters remain consistent with those of the 1x images. Overall, it is truly impressive performance.
There is a debate about the usefulness of the full-res mode on the telephoto. While it doesn’t necessarily offer extra detail, it does make noise more visible and slightly affects dynamic range. When zooming in further with a resolution of 12.5MP, you can capture more detailed shots with better sharpness and definition. Initially, we thought that the 10x button in the zoom selector might be too much for the 4.3x telephoto, but surprisingly, the shots at 233mm equivalent are actually very good.
When we take a sudden turn to examine the opposite end of the zoom range, our emotions become somewhat conflicted. Our main complaint is that its coverage is only moderately ultra wide. Additionally, when combined with the relatively wide primary camera, there is not a significant distinction between the two focal lengths. In addition to that, we are pleased with the outcomes. The level of detail is impressive, the noise performance is reliable. Moreover, the dynamic range is pleasantly wide and the color reproduction is also excellent.
Low-light photo quality
The X100 Pro offers an auto Night mode feature that is now commonly found in similar devices. When in low-light conditions, a crescent icon appears in the corner of the viewfinder, indicated by a yellow light, to notify you that the feature is active. Vivo refers to this as ‘Dim light’ and if desired, you can disable it by pressing the icon. We found that the auto mode was frequently engaged and consistently produced results comparable to those obtained with the dedicated Night mode. Furthermore, turning off the Dim light switch often had minimal impact, although there were noticeable differences in certain cases.

Main camera
The primary camera produces impressive low-light photographs. The dynamic range is outstanding, ensuring well-balanced tonal extremes and accurately exposed images. The auto white balance effortlessly handles mixed lighting situations without any problems, maintaining the vibrant colors observed during daylight. Overall, the level of detail captured is excellent, although there may be a slight presence of aggressive sharpening in certain scenes and textures – nothing too significant, but it is noticeable.
These identical scenes appear the same when captured using the specialized Night mode. Disabling Dim light doesn’t make a significant difference either. If you carefully examine the images, you may notice minor variations in sharpening or slightly brighter highlight areas. However, these differences rarely have a substantial impact on the overall image quality. The eighth scene appears to have worse exposure when left in Photo mode without any adjustments.
Even when zoomed in 2x, the photos maintain their impressive quality even in low-light conditions. Furthermore, the results of the full auto Dim light setting are identical to those achieved in Night mode. In the absence of Night mode, there may be occasional areas with darker shadows, but this is only minimal and happens infrequently rather than being a common occurrence.
Telephoto camera
The behavior of the periscope telephoto lens varies slightly depending on whether it is in Photo mode or Night mode. When Dim light is deactivated, there is a consistent tendency for darker exposures. However, when Dim light is activated, both Photo mode and Night mode capture well-balanced exposures with controlled highlight clipping and good development in the dark areas. The exposure quality between these two modes is very similar. We did observe slightly more frequent differences in white balance between the two modes, with Photo mode having a slightly greener appearance in the fourth and seventh scene.
The level of detail captured is excellent, and it appears more natural and visually appealing in Photo mode compared to the heavily processed Night mode version. Interestingly, when Dim light is disabled in Photo mode, there is a noticeable increase in sharpness that is not present in the Photo/Dim light shots. This lens demonstrates astigmatism, which produces beautiful sunstar-like Christmas tree lights but can be bothersome in other scenarios.
There seems to be no automatic Night mode available for the 10x zoom level, and the Photo mode does not have a crescent even in different lighting conditions. However, the images look quite similar, with the Night mode ones slightly better in reducing noise and enhancing sharpness in darker areas. All in all, the 10x shots are of high quality.

Ultrawide camera
The ultrawide lens reintroduces the crescent effect, just like it did on other cameras. It is able to capture well-exposed shots with nicely rendered shadows and preserved highlights. The colors remain vibrant even in low-light conditions, and there were no issues with white balance. There is no noticeable difference between the full auto mode and the dedicated Night mode, any variations observed can be attributed to shot-to-shot differences rather than specific modes.
