Design

I am evaluating the HyperX Cirro Buds Pro in the Tan color option, which I find appealing. HyperX also offers traditional color options like Black and Blue. Nevertheless, the case maintains a consistent color with a translucent black finish. The charging case has a rectangular shape with gently rounded edges. Despite being somewhat hidden by the black coating, you can still observe fine details on it. While the case is made of plastic, it is important to note that the quality appears to be good and does not feel cheap in any way.

Additionally, there is a manual pairing button on the case to facilitate Bluetooth connection. Furthermore, there is a USB-C port located at the bottom for charging purposes. The lid of the case is my only concern as it depends on small hinges. Consequently, opening the lid may be challenging initially because it closes with the slightest touch. While the earbud-holding magnets are quite robust, I would have liked them to be even stronger for a more secure grip. Consequently, shaking the case vigorously will produce a peculiar wobbling noise.

Features

Unlike Apple AirPods, the HyperX Cirro Buds Pro earbuds skip the stem. The earbuds also have some contours and cuts to mimic the shape of a human ear for a snug fit. However, the fit, in my case, was fine, but the bulky size can be bothersome if you have small ears. The box has extra tips (three sizes) that may help with a more snug fit. It may also take some time to get used to the size of earbuds, but it gets better after a few days of usage.

The HyperX Cirro Buds Pro earbuds are IPX4-rated for protection against water splashes. It means you can wear them during sweaty workout sessions or in the rain, but it would be wise to keep the earbuds dry. The earbuds also have touch controls to pause and play music (single tap), turn on ambient or ANC modes (long press right earbud), and replay music (triple taps).

To activate the dedicated gaming mode, simply triple-tap the left earbud to enable a 90ms low latency connection. I did not face any issue with the sound even when the earbuds were paired with a Windows PC for gaming. Additionally, you can activate the voice assistant by long-pressing the left earbud. It seamlessly integrates with Siri, as I primarily used the HyperX Cirro Buds Pro with an iPhone.

Sadly, touch controls aren’t customisable due to no app support. No app support also means you can’t easily create or change sound profiles (aka EQs). The earbuds also lack smart” capabilities, such as personalised sound profiles. This may irk many potential customers as app support is something most brands in the segment provide.

Sound quality and ANC

The HyperX Cirro Buds Pro feature Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Ambient modes, utilizing two microphones for their functionality. These earbuds are compatible with any Bluetooth-enabled device and operate on the Bluetooth 5.2 standard.  Usually, the HyperX Cirro Buds Pro provide a sound profile that is clean and balanced. This results in moderate bass, along with mostly balanced mids and trebles. The ANC may be underwhelming in idle mode, allowing ambient sounds to penetrate easily without different noise reduction levels.

Nonetheless, the ANC performs well when music is being played. The ambient mode was a standout for me, as the sound captured through the microphones sounds natural and clear. However, the Ambient mode does not offer any customization options. I tested the sound quality by listening to the theme music of GTA San Andreas, which features heavy bass and hip-hop elements.

The sound quality was generally good, although the bass lacked a bit of punch. This could be positive for those who appreciate a balanced sound. A clear sound can improve the gaming experience by providing crisp vocals, which is favored by many users. I also checked out Taylor Swift’s latest album, where the vocals were exceptionally clear with well-balanced mid and high tones. However, the pop elements in several songs were subtly integrated, which was a positive aspect.

Microphones and battery

As previously stated, each earbud has two microphones. The call audio quality is acceptable, but the recipient may sometimes detect a reverberation in the sound. The earbuds are said to offer 4.5 hours of audio playback when ANC is on, and with the charging case, HyperX states a total of 35 hours of playback.

In my assessment, the HyperX Cirro Buds Pro lasted close to four hours with ANC on and volume set at 50 percent. This is a good standard, particularly for travel purposes. If you’re on longer flights, you might have to recharge the earbuds intermittently. Keep in mind that listening to music at louder volumes could impact the battery life.

Verdict

The HyperX Cirro Buds Pro are ideal for individuals who appreciate a clear and well-balanced sound profile. If you prefer a bit more emphasis on the bass, you might want to explore the OnePlus Buds 3 (review) or Nothing Ear (a) (review). HyperX prioritizes low latency, a feature that the HyperX Cirro Buds Pro delivers, making it a worthwhile option for gamers to consider.
