About Assam Agricultural University Recruitment
The Upper Shillong Experimental Farm, which is now in Meghalaya, was established in 1897, just a decade after the agricultural department was established in the state of Assam in 1882. This was the beginning of agricultural research in the state. However, the establishment of two Rice Experimental Stations—one in Karimganj in the Barak valley in 1913 and one in Titabor in the Brahmaputra valley in 1923—sowed the seeds of agricultural research in Assam today. After these research stations, a number of research stations were set up to study important crops like jute, pulses, oilseeds, and others. Under the Assam Agricultural University Act of 1968, the Assam Agricultural University was established on April 1, 1969, with the goals of providing farm education, conducting research in agriculture and related fields, and effectively disseminating newly developed technologies.
Prior to the University’s establishment, the state’s Department of Agriculture was responsible for 17 different research projects. The Assam Government transferred all of the research projects and 10 experimental farms to the AAU by July 1973. The AAU already had the College of Agriculture and its farm in Barbheta, Jorhat, and the College of Veterinary Sciences in Khanapara, Guwahati.
