V Senthil Balaji Wiki: V Senthil Balaji is a politician from Tamil Nadu who has been associate with various political parties and has held several ministerial positions. He is currently the Minister Without Portfolio in the M. K. Stalin cabinet and represents the Karur constituency in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. V Senthil Balaji is the Minister of Electricity, Prohibition, and Excise duty.

V Senthil Balaji was born on 21 October 1975 in Rameswarapatti, a village in Karur district. He belongs to the Goundar community, which is classified as Other Backward Class (OBC) in Tamil Nadu. He comes from an agricultural background and has a B.Com degree from the Government Arts College in Karur. However, he was reportedly suspend from the college in 1995 for unknown reasons.

V Senthil Balaji is a prominent Indian politician hailing from Tamil Nadu. He has been an active member of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party and has held several important positions within the party and the state government. Political Career

V Senthil Balaji started his political career at the age of 21 by joining the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) party in 1994. He later switched to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party in 1996 and became a councillor in the Karur municipality. In 2000, he join the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party and was elect as a councillor again in 2001.

He contested and won the Karur assembly seat in 2006 and 2011 as an AIADMK candidate. He was appoint as the Minister for Transport in the fourth Jayalalithaa ministry in 2011 and held the portfolio till 2015. V Senthil Balaji was also the AIADMK district secretary for Karur till 2015.

He was drop from the cabinet and the party post in 2015 by Jayalalithaa for unknown reasons. He then contested and won the Aravakurichi assembly seat in 2016 as an AIADMK candidate. After Jayalalithaa’s death in 2016, he supported T. T. V. Dhinakaran, who was leading a rebel faction of AIADMK against the official leadership of O. Panneerselvam and Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

He was one of the 18 MLAs who were disqualified by the speaker of the assembly in 2017 for withdrawing their support to the Palaniswami government and seeking a change of chief minister. V Senthil Balaji then joined Dhinakaran’s newly formed party, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), in 2018.

He contested and won the Aravakurichi assembly seat again in 2019 as an AMMK candidate after the Madras High Court upheld his disqualification and ordered fresh elections. However, he soon left AMMK and rejoined DMK in 2018. He contested and won the Karur assembly seat in 2021 as a DMK candidate.

He was sworn in as the Minister for Electricity, Prohibition and Excise in the M. K. Stalin cabinet in May 2021. However, he was divested of these portfolios and made Minister Without Portfolio in June 2021 after he faced allegations of corruption and money laundering.

Education

‘He graduated from the government school in his native place, Pasupathypalayam’s Vivekananda School and Karur’s Municipal Higher Secondary School. After that, he obtained a commerce degree.

Controversies

V Senthil Balaji has been involve in several controversies and legal cases during his political career. Some of them are:

  • In 2012, he was accuse of abusing his power as Transport Minister to favour his relatives and friends in awarding contracts for bus body building, spare parts supply, fuel purchase, etc.
  • In 2013, he was accused of threatening a woman who had filed a complaint against him for cheating her of Rs. 1 crore by promising her a government job.
  • In 2014, he was accuse of assaulting a journalist who had expose his involvement in illegal sand mining activities.
  • In 2015, he was accuse of orchestrating violence and vandalism during a bandh called by AIADMK to protest against Karnataka’s refusal to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
  • In 2016, he was accused of distributing money to voters during the Aravakurichi assembly by-election, which was cancelled by the Election Commission due to evidence of electoral malpractices.
  • In 2017, he was accused of being part of a cash-for-job racket that allegedly collected Rs. 63 crore from job aspirants in the transport department during his tenure as Transport Minister.
  • In 2018, he was booked by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) for allegedly laundering Rs. 10 crore through shell companies and benami transactions.
  • In 2020, he was booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA) for allegedly cheating and defrauding the transport department of Rs. 5 crore by issuing fake appointment orders to 464 drivers and conductors.
  • In 2021, he was accused of interfering in the functioning of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) and demanding bribes from contractors and suppliers as Electricity Minister.

Family and Net Worth

V Senthil Balaji is married to Megala Senthilbalaji, who is a homemaker. They have a daughter, whose name is not known. He lives in a house in Rameswarapatti, Karur, which is worth Rs. 1.5 crore. He also owns agricultural land worth Rs. 1.2 crore and non-agricultural land worth Rs. 2.5 crore in Karur district.
