The Indian team’s month-long break is coming to an end, and the focus has now shifted to the upcoming bilateral series, Asia Cup, and ICC World Cup 2023. The Indian management is working hard on the fitness of their players, as several important players are recovering from injuries at the NCA and trying to regain fitness before the World Cup, which is only three months away.
Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul are the four key players who have been sidelined for a significant period of time. In the latest development, India dealt a heavy blow, as a top BCCI official revealed that Iyer might miss the upcoming World Cup because of his back injury. The 28-year-old had back issues since February and missed several series before opting for surgery in London that also ruled him out of the IPL.
Latest Update; According to a high-ranking BCCI official, Shreya Iyer’s recovery process has been quite sluggish. The official also disclosed that the 28-year-old will not be able to participate in the World Cup due to the back injury he sustained. Iyer was declared unfit for the 4th India vs. Australia Test earlier this year and has remained inactive ever since.

Although Iyer had a successful injury, there were reports indicating that he experienced some mild discomfort during his rehabilitation at NCA and received injections to alleviate it. A BCCI official mentioned, “Iyer’s recovery is progressing slowly, but we remain optimistic that he will be fit in time for the World Cup. However, it is currently uncertain.”
According to the official, it was mentioned that KL Rahul, who sustained a hip flexor injury while playing in the IPL, is expected to fully recover within a month and will be available to participate in the Asia Cup. The Asia Cup is scheduled to commence on August 31. Additionally, it was also stated that Bumrah will rejoin the team for the Ireland series.
