Son of actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, and grandson of actor-director Raj Kapoor, Kapoor continued moviemaking and acting at the School of Visual Arts and at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Movie Institute. He then helped Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the film Black (2005) and debuted as an actor with Bhansali’s tragic novel, Saawariya (2007), a critical and commercial failure. Kapoor became famous for his presentation in Wake Up Sid (2009), in the romantic comedy movie Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009) and in the drama film Rocket Singh: seller of the year (2009). His most-watched movie of this period is the political drama Raajneeti (2010).
The romantic drama moovie Rockstar (2011), in which he plays a problematic musician, and the comic drama movie Barfi! (2012), in which he was a jolly deaf-mute, earned Kapoor 2 successive awards for Best Actor at Filmfare. A leading character alongside Deepika Padukone in the romantic comedy movie Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013), one of India’s most lucrative movies, accepted her as a major Bollywood actor.
