One of our favorites from last year was the reasonably priced Nord Buds from OnePlus. It was a good pair of headphones for the money that had a quirky design, a long battery life, and a sound that was made specifically for bass heads. However, their mic quality was subpar, and at the time, ANC was only available on more expensive buds. The new case also has a metallic sheen and a lighter gray color. The body is grayer than the lid, and it has an interesting speckled pattern that looks like dust at first glance. The rear of the case has a USB-C port for charging and a matching button that is so flush with the surface it’s scarcely noticeable.
In keeping with the theme, the earbuds feature a slightly altered version of the earlier design. They have the same flat pill-shaped stems, but instead of a chrome finish, the raised circular touch area is now inset into the body with glossy clear plastic. The stems are also speckled, giving the impression that the earbuds are covered in dandruff in this instance. Before applying the paint, it’s possible that someone should have considered that.

OnePlus has been attempting to ensure that its user base has a smartphone to choose from in almost every important price range with its flagship and Nord lineups. With the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 serving as the current flagship TWS earbuds and the Nord Buds 2 serving as the go-to budget TWS earbuds, the company has also been successful in the audio market. For the low price of Rs 2,799, the original Nord Buds provided surprising quality. The OnePlus Nord Buds 2 was released at a slightly higher price of Rs 2,999, which is impressive given that the company included a feature that is sorely needed: Noise Cancellation Activated.
Design and Durability
The “material design” of the Nord Buds 2 is identical to that of the original, with the exception of the fact that the case now lacks any sharp edges. As a result, you won’t have to worry about the Buds 2 getting caught in your pockets. Other than the fact that the dimpled indentation for the touch surface now rests beneath a more pronounced cliff, the buds themselves are nearly identical to the ones that came before them. However, it differs sufficiently from the rest of the buds to indicate precisely where to press. With their cases swapped, we were able to place the Nord Buds precisely due to their identical footprint. The previous version retains its IP55 rating. There have also been no advancements there, so the buds are still watertight like before.
The Nord Buds 2 are surprising light and comfortable despite their blocky, Lego-like appearance. They stayed in our ears throughout the workout when we took them to the gym to test their ergonomics.

Hardware and Sound
OnePlus probably thought, “If it ain’t broke, why fix it?” because the original Nord Buds already had pretty good drivers. Therefore, the Nord Buds 2 continue to feature the same dynamic drivers with a diameter of 12.4 millimeters that are capable of producing a satisfyingly thumpy low-end sound. Basic codecs are used; However, for the price, you only get AAC and SBC, which is acceptable. The problem is that the default equalizer settings place so much emphasis on lower frequencies that some songs begin to sound muddy. We recognize that the typical Indian Joe enjoys bass, but this version sounds a little overdone and doesn’t show off the drivers’ true potential. As a result, we manually adjusted the equalizer in the HeyMelody app to reduce the low frequencies and increase the higher ones.
We did not notice any clipping at high volumes, so we are confident that OnePlus altered the drivers this time. Changing the EQ also makes the bass sound more responsive. This was something we noticed, especially in Punjabi pop songs and Shouse’s single Love Tonight. You get compliance with Dirac Tuner and Dolby Atmos for watching movies and TV shows, and our experience was generally positive. The Nord Buds 2 never overpowered the sound effects to drown out the vocals, despite defaulting to a warm tuning. The microphones are excellent and have made significant advancements since the previous generation. However, the people who answered our calls were unable to tell whether we were speaking through the microphone on our phone or through our headphones.
Battery Life
Although OnePlus has not provided much information regarding the actual battery capacities of the charging case and the buds, their claims are very intriguing: approximately five hours of listening time with the buds and 27 hours of backup with the charging case with the ANC turned on. That is roughly equivalent to the absence of ANC in the original Nord Buds.
With ANC enabled and the battery set to 80% throughout, we were able to use the buds for approximately six and a half hours. As a result, we didn’t have to charge the case for about five days, which is great for a pair of ANC buds. With the ANC off, we were able to get an additional hour and a half out of both the charging case and the buds. From a standstill, charging the case completely takes about 30 minutes. The dead buds (not the case) are fully charged in about the same amount of time.
