As a result, in order to investigate these extremely significant aspects, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) established a Committee to Review the Arrangements for Institutional Credit for Agriculture and Rural Development (CRAFICARD) at the request of the Indian government. The Committee was established on March 30, 1979, and Shri B. Sivaraman, a former member of the Indian government’s Planning Commission, served as its chairman.
The Committee’s interim report, which was submitted on November 28, 1979, outlined the requirement for a brand-new organizational device for giving credit-related issues associated with rural development complete focus, forceful direction, and undivided attention.
