Dadasaheb Phalke Awards 2024- The Directorate of Film Festivals, an organization established by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, bestows the Dadasaheb Phalke Award annually at the National Film Awards ceremony. “Outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema” is the reason the recipient is being honored. About Dadasaheb Phalke Awards
Dhundiraj Govind Phalke was the real name of Dadasaheb Phalke. He was born in Trimbak, Maharashtra, on April 30, 1870, to a Marathi-speaking Chitpavan Brahmin family. At Mumbai’s Sir JJ School of Art, he received instruction in acting and photography. He went to Germany to study filmmaking after that. He produced Raja Harishchandra, India’s first feature-length silent film, upon his return. For his sincere dedication to and conviction in cinema, he was given the honorary title “Father of Indian Cinema.” In 1969, the Indian government established the Dada Saheb Phalke Award to honor his outstanding contributions and honor the best performances of the year in a variety of categories.
