About AMU MBA

Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, a great Muslim reformer and statesman who believed that Muslims should be educated and involved in public life and government services in India following the Indian War of Independence in 1857, founded the university. Sir Syed received assistance from Raja Jai Kishan in establishing the university. The British decision in 1842 to replace Persian as the language of the courts of law and government employment caused great anxiety among Muslims of the subcontinent. In order for Muslims to maintain their social and political power, particularly in Northern India, Sir Syed believed that Muslims needed to acquire proficiency in the English language and Western sciences.

By opening schools in Moradabad and Ghazipur in 1858 and 1863, he began to lay the groundwork for a Muslim university. His goal when he founded the Scientific Society in Aligarh in 1864 was to translate Western literature into Indian languages to encourage Muslims to adopt Western education and cultivate a scientific temperament. The deep craving to improve the social states of Indian Muslims drove Sir Syed to distribute the periodical, ‘Tehzibul Akhlaq’ in 1870.
