Tania Sachdev: Tania Sachdev, born on August 20, 1986, is an Indian chess player who holds the FIDE titles of International Master (IM) and Woman Grandmaster (WGM). She has won the Indian women’s chess championship twice, in 2006 and 2007, and was the Asian women’s chess champion in 2007.

Tania Sachdev completed her schooling at Modern School in Vasant Vihar, Delhi, and graduated from Sri Venkateswara College. She is sponsored by Red Bull and married Delhi-based architect Viraj Kataria in November 2014. Additionally, Tania is a three-time Commonwealth Women’s Chess Champion, having claimed the title in 2016, 2018, and 2019. Beyond her playing career, she also works as a chess presenter and commentator.

Early Life
Tania Sachdev was born in Delhi and began playing chess at the age of six, thanks to her mother, Anju, who introduced her to the game. With the support of her parents, she received professional coaching, and by the age of eight, she earned her first international title under the guidance of coach K.C. Joshi. During her childhood, Tania achieved notable successes, including becoming the under-12 Indian champion, winning the Asian U14 girls’ championship in 2000, and securing a bronze medal at the 1998 World Youth Chess Championships in the Girls U12 category. In 2002, she also claimed victory at the Asian Junior Girls Championship held in Marawila.
