About Saurashtra University
The prominent educationists and freedom fighters of the Saurashtra region made a firm demand for a separate university from Gujarat University (Ahmedabad), which led to the establishment of the Saurashtra University. After the May 1, 1961, establishment of the state of Gujarat, demand increased. In 1965, the Legislative Assembly of Gujarat passed the Saurashtra University Act (Gujarat Act No. 39 of 1965). Saurashtra University was founded on May 23, 1967, with Rajkot and Bhavnagar serving as its initial headquarters. Rajkot became the sole Saurashtra University headquarters following the incorporation of Bhavnagar University. 363 acres of land make up the University’s campus.
