Balachander’s 1975 Tamil drama “Apoorva Raagangal.” He initially portrayed negative characters but soon made a mark with positive roles, particularly as a heartbroken lover in films like S. P. Muthuraman’s “Bhuvana Oru Kelvi Kuri” (1977), as well as in “Mullum Malarum” and “Aval Appadithan.” His performance in “Bhuvana Oru Kelvi Kuri” earned him the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize for Best Actor. By the end of the 1970s, Rajinikanth had established himself in the Tamil film industry, later achieving significant commercial success with dual roles in the action thriller “Billa” (1980), a remake of the Hindi film “Don” (1978).
