Career
She attended Hyderabad Public School and then attended the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Delhi to study fashion design. After her studies, she signed up for a Teja-directed film in 2006, but it didn’t take off for some reason. However, she accepted an offer to work on Oka Vichitram, another Teja film. Kaur was pursuing a leadership role in Mayajalam, the first Telugu film, even before that movie came out.
After that, she played the title role of Nikki in several Telugu films, including Souryam, where she co-starred with Gopichand and Anushka Shetty. Poonam Kaur was nominated for the 2008 Best Supporting Actress Award for her performance in the latter. She made her acting debuts in Nenjirukkum Varai and Bandhu Balaga, both directed by S. A. Chandrasekhar, in the Tamil film industry.
