Meghalaya Election Results 2024- Chief Minister Conrad Sangma arrived at Raj Bhavan to meet with Governor Phagu Chauhan, presented his resignation, and staked claims at forming the new state government a day after the National People’s Party (NPP) emerged as the single-largest party in Meghalaya with 26 seats in the 60-seat Assembly. Similar to what happened five years ago, the NPP is set to join forces with the BJP to form a coalition government. According to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s tweet, Sangma had approached Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his support and blessings in forming the new government. Following that, Sangma thanked the state BJP for supporting the formation of the government.
Because no party won the majority31 in this case the Meghalaya election results were in line with exit polls. From the Tura South constituency, CM Sangma prevailed. The small regional party United Democratic Party (UDP), which won 11 seats in the Meghalaya Assembly, lived up to its promise and came in second place.
Meghalaya Election Results 2024
The NPP is emerging as the largest party in the state, with its candidates leading, according to the most recent Meghalaya Assembly Election Result 2024, an election was held to elect all 60 members of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. The few NPP candidates who ran in the state’s assembly election have so far won, and an alliance between the BJP and NPP could form in Meghalaya. Counting the votes for 59 seats in the state is currently underway.
On Thursday, 2024, at 8 a.m., the counting began, and the results are anticipated to be available by evening. The BJP state chief had previously stated that his party was anticipating winning at least 10 to 15 seats in the state. The ruling NPP party’s incumbent CM also asserted that his party was close to exceeding the 30 percent threshold. It will be interesting to see what impact this will have on policy decisions being made by both the central and state governments as well as whether or not there will be a shift in political parties’ political stances in Meghalaya. Overall, it has been a big setback for the BJP which was expected to sweep Meghalaya like it did in other parts of India.

What were Exit polls predicting for Meghalaya?
Predictions that the National People’s Party (NPP) would win the most seats in Meghalaya based on exit polls have proven to be accurate. The predictions indicated that the NPP would win 18 to 24 of the 60 seats. According to Meghalaya Election polls, the BJP, which is expected to win the other two states of Tripura and Nagaland, was only expected to win 4 to 8 seats in Meghalaya. The Congress was expected to win 6 to 12 seats, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) 5 to 9, and other parties were expected to win 17 to 29 seats.
However, the results of the elections have proven to be quite different from those predictions. The outcome of the elections was unexpected, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerging as the largest party in the state assembly. This result has raised questions about whether Exit polls can accurately predict political outcomes. In light of this uncertainty, it is important for observers to approach such polls with a critical eye and to not place undue trust in them.
