When well-known motorcycle manufacturers produce new motorcycles for future generations, it is all too easy to lose sight of tradition and become overwhelmed by modern technology. This is especially true for businesses like Lambretta, which might be thought to be esoteric because their scooters aren’t as widely available as Vespa’s.

Designing the next generation of Lambretta scooters without losing sight of what sets them apart from other scooters is undoubtedly a challenging endeavor, which is why Lambretta needs the assistance of some fresh thinkers for the project. The current owner of the Lambretta brand, Innocenti SA, has hired design interns from the European Institute of Design in Milan, Italy, in line with this. The project will serve as the senior thesis for 26 students who hope to graduate in 2024.

Lambretta X300 and G350 Features

The scooter also includes a USB charging port and an LED lighting system with the company’s distinctive hexagonal headlight. The display uses the most recent TFT technology, which enables the screen to show vivid colors. As a safety measure, the scooter has ABS.

Alloy Wheels

The Lambretta X300 and G350 Special have a broad handlebar, a long exhaust with a sporty muffler, circular mirrors, a hexagonal headlamp unit with LED lighting, and a single-piece seat. While the latter features a slightly rounded body with chrome accents, the former has angular body panels and a blacked-out finish. Both scooters have alloy 12-inch wheels.

Suspension

The bigger model, the G350, has a kerb weight of 173 kg compared to the Lambretta X300’s 165 kg. The G350 comes with a 9.5-liter fuel tank, whereas the X300 has a 7-liter tank. Both scooters feature 12-inch wheels and the recognizable two trailing-link front suspension. There is currently no word of the brand being introduced in India, despite the fact that Lambretta scooters were sold there in the 1960s and 1970s. Currently, both of the new Lambretta scooter models are intended for the European market.

Engine

A 275cc, 4-valve, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder petrol engine powers the Lambretta X300, producing a maximum output of 24.7 horsepower and a maximum torque of 24.5 Nm. A bigger 330cc, 4-valve, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine powers the G350 Special, with a maximum output of 25.8 hp/25.5 Nm. An CVT gearbox serves as the transmission for both scooters.

Safety Features

For improved braking performance and control on the road, the Lambretta X300 and G350 Special come with dual-channel ABS and disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels. A front double-link arm unit and a rear pair of shock absorbers handle the scooters’ suspension functions, respectively.

Lambretta dubuts X300 and G350 Specification

The G350 is a gasoline scooter with a 330cc single-cylinder engine with four valves and liquid cooling that produces 27.5 horsepower and 27 nm of torque. The iconic fixed front fender and double trailing-link front suspension are two distinctive Lambretta features. It is significantly heavier than the scooters we see in India, weighing 173 kg, and it is even heavier than the Keeway Sixties 300i, a similar 278cc retro scooter that just came out and weighs 146 kg.

With its square-ish design and fixed front fender, the X300 is still unmistakably a Lambretta, but it is powered by a smaller 275cc single-cylinder engine. This machine produces 25 horsepower and 24.5 nanometers of torque, but it lacks a TFT display and uses LCD clocks that are only partially digital. However, it has keyless operation, which the G350 lacks. Both scooters have ABS-equipped disc brakes on both ends and full LED lighting.

Lambretta X300 and G350 Reviews

The Lambretta  X300’s engine is smaller than the G350’s. The G350 has a 330-cc motor, but it has a 275-cc engine instead. As a result, the engine produces 25 horsepower and 24.5 nm of peak torque. The G350, on the other hand, has a 330cc engine that produces 27.5 bhp and 27 nm of torque. Although Piaggio continued to produce scooters, the more recent models are evidently technically more advanced and, as a result, more dependable.

Conclusion

An older Lambretta is just as reliable as an older Vespa. The engine, brakes (the rear had better brakes than the front), steering, and finish and quality all impressed me. It still looks cool to me because it’s a Lamborghini. It is merely a modern version that has been tastefully executed. Around 35,000 scooters appear to have been produced by SIL during the financial year 1980–81. However, production finally ended in 1997, and this had decreased to approximately 4,500 units by 1987.
