As per Vedic Panchang, this year Chaturthi Tithi will begin at 01:58 PM on 13th October & will end the following day on 14th October at 03:07 AM. Therefore, considering the Udayatithi as the basis, the fast of Karva Chauth will hold fast to on October 13 only.

Karva Chauth worship method

On the day of Karva Chauth, women should wake up before sunrise in the morning & take bath & clean the house of worship. After this, after eating the sargi share by the mother-in-law, take a vow of Nirjala fast. In the evening, install all the deities on an earthen altar. Keep at least 13 in it.

Decorate the worship plate with incense, lamp, sandalwood, roli & vermilion. Begin the worship about an hour before the moon leaves. While the puja, women listen to the Karva Chauth story. Arghya is shares after seeing the moon by a sieve. After this, women break their fast by eat up water & seek blessings from their mother-in-law for living an unbroken Saubhagyavati.

Karwa Chauth Vrat Katha

एक समय की बात है एक साहूकार के सात पुत्र और एक पुत्री थी। पुत्री अपने भाइयों की इकलौती बहन थी इस वजह से उसे सभी भाई बहुत प्रेम करते थे। एक बार कार्तिक मास के कृष्ण पक्ष की चतुर्थी तिथि को साहूकार की पत्नी समेत उसकी सातों बहुओं और पुत्री ने भी करवा चौथ का व्रत रखा।

रात्रि के समय जब साहूकार के सभी लड़के भोजन करने बैठे तो उन्होंने अपनी बहन से भी भोजन का आग्रह किया। इस बात पर बहन ने कहा कि भैया आज करवा चौथ का व्रत उसने भी रखा है और चंद्रमा के दर्शन के पश्चात ही कुछ खा सकती है। चांद के निकलने पर उसे अर्घ्य देकर ही वो अन्न और जल ग्रहण कर सकती है।

साहूकार के बेटे अपनी बहन से बहुत प्रेम करते थे और उन्हें अपनी बहन का भूख से व्याकुल चेहरा देख बेहद दुख हुआ। अपनी बहन का ये हाल देखकर उन्हें ऐसा विचार आया कि यदि चंद्रमा जल्दी ही निकल आए तो उनकी बहन व्रत का पारण कर सकती है। इस वजह से साहूकार के बेटे नगर के बाहर गए और वहां एक पेड़ पर चढ़ कर अग्नि जला दी। घर वापस आकर उन्होंने अपनी बहन से कहा- देखो बहन, चंद्रमा निकल आया है। अब तुम अर्घ्य देकर भोजन ग्रहण कर सकती हो।

साहूकार की बेटी ने अपनी भाभियों से भी चंद्रमा के दर्शन (चंद्रमा से प्रार्थना कैसे करें) करके व्रत खोलने को कहा, लेकिन उनकी भाभियों ने इस बात से मना कर दिया और बताया कि अभी चांद नहीं निकला है बल्कि उनके भाइयों ने प्रेम वश और बहन को भूख से व्याकुल देखकर ही नकली चांद दिखा दिया है।

बहन ने भाभियों की बात को अनसुना कर दिया और अपने भाइयों की बात मानकर भाइयों द्वारा दिखाए गए नकली चांद को अर्घ्य देकर अन्न जल ग्रहण कर लिया।  इस प्रकार बहन का करवा चौथ का व्रत भंग होने की वजह से भगवान श्री गणेश साहूकार की बेटी पर अप्रसन्न हो गए। गणेश जी की अप्रसन्नता के कारण उस लड़की का पति जल्दी ही बीमार हो गया और घर में बचा हुआ सारा धन उसकी बीमारी में व्यय हो गया।

साहूकार की बेटी को जब अपने किए हुए दोषों का पता लगा तो उसे बहुत पश्चाताप हुआ। उसने गणेश जी से क्षमा प्रार्थना की और फिर से विधि पूर्वक चतुर्थी का व्रत शुरू कर दिया। उसने विधि से पूजन करके चंद्रमा को अर्घ्य देकर अपना उपवास पूरा किया और वहां उपस्थित सभी लोगों का आशीर्वाद ग्रहण किया।

साहूकार की निश्छल भक्ति और श्रद्धा को देखकर भगवान गणेश जी उस पर प्रसन्न हो गए और उसके पति को जीवनदान दिया। साथ ही, उसे सभी प्रकार के रोगों से मुक्त करके धन, संपत्ति और वैभव से युक्त कर दिया।
