itel S24 Review 2024

The itel S24 smartphone stands out as an ideal option for those looking for a cost-effective device that fulfills basic requirements. Its expansive screen and impressive stereo speakers enhanced with DTS technology offer an enjoyable multimedia experience.

The smartphone boasts reliable battery life, a sleek design, and high-quality daylight cameras, making it a practical choice for everyday use. Despite these strengths, the itel S24 does not support 5G connectivity, and its performance may fall short in comparison to higher-end models on the market.

Design And Display

The itel S24 features a sleek and uncomplicated design, showcasing a shimmering white back panel known as ‘Dawn White’ and a sizable circular camera decoration slightly positioned to the side. The panel boasts a glossy surface that tends to attract fingerprints and smudges, but the color combination effectively conceals them unless observed from a specific angle.

Itel states that the panel features color-changing technology that alters the rear panel’s color in direct sunlight. After testing it, I can confirm that it does work, changing the white hue of the rear panel to a gentle pink resembling a Sakura blossom’s color. The volume and power buttons are located on the right edge, which also serves as a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for quick device unlocking. The SIM card tray is positioned on the left edge. On the bottom edge of the smartphone, there are a Type-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a speaker grille, while another speaker grille can be found on the top edge. The smartphone is ergonomic to hold and weighs approximately 194g.

\

The smartphone comes with a 6.56-inch IPS LCD display that offers HD+ resolution (720 x 1612 pixels), a peak brightness of 480 nits, and a maximum refresh rate of 90Hz. It includes a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera, thin bezels around the edges, and thicker bezels at the bottom of the screen. The screen’s brightness is suitable for indoor settings, but it may seem insufficient when

used outdoors, particularly during midday. The screen provides a decent visual display, enhanced by the remarkable stereo speakers with DTS support. Although the 90Hz refresh rate provides a seamless experience, there are competing smartphones in the same price bracket that now feature a 120Hz refresh rate.

Cameras

The itel S24 boasts an enhanced main camera in comparison to the itel S23. It is equipped with a 108MP Samsung HM6 ISOCELL primary camera featuring an f/1.6 aperture and an AI lens. Additionally, it sports an 8MP front camera. While the camera performs well in daylight conditions, it may overexpose images in bright settings. Users can utilize the dedicated 108MP mode for capturing highly detailed images, leading to improved quality with better detail and balanced exposure levels. Let’s now compare it with the Moto G24 Power, a well-known budget smartphone.

The itel S24 and Moto G24 Power have similar levels of detail and dynamic range in their photos, with the main distinction being their color grading. The Moto G24 Power enhances colors and has a cooler hue, whereas the itel S24 has slightly warmer tones. The itel S24 more accurately reflects the original scene in this scenario.

The itel S24’s low-light camera performance is not as good as its performance in daylight, but considering its price, it is acceptable. Enabling the super night mode does add more light to the images, but it sacrifices details. The sharpness is not high, and low-light pictures show noticeable lens flare. Selfies also follow a similar pattern, capturing nice daylight photos but delivering less attractive results in low-light conditions.

Performance and software

The itel S24 is equipped with the MediaTek Helio G91 processor, supported by a maximum of 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. Through the MEM fusion feature, the RAM capacity can be expanded by an extra 8GB. In terms of performance, the itel S24 does not present any unique features compared to other devices in its price range. While there may be occasional app browsing interruptions, overall performance is generally smooth. Below are performance comparisons with selected competitors.

We tested the devices performance by playing graphically intensive games like COD: Mobile, Real Racing 3, and BGMI. Although it could handle COD: Mobile at medium settings, there was evident lag. Real Racing 3 was playable at standard graphics, but still experienced some lag. BGMI posed a challenge for the itel S24, indicating that it is not optimized for gaming and is more suitable for casual gaming and daily tasks.

The smartphone is equipped with pre-installed Android 13 and a range of intelligent features designed to enhance your daily user experience. I discovered the smart panel, game mode, and i-smart gestures to be especially practical. The dynamic bar provides a nice addition to the user interface. I will attach images displaying these features. Additionally, there is a generative wallpaper feature, although it is currently non-functional. One standout feature is the NFC support, which is uncommon in this price range.

Battery And Charging

The itel S24 is equipped with a typical 5,000mAh battery that enables 18W fast charging using the provided charger. During our PCMark battery benchmark assessment, the itel S24 achieved a runtime of 12 hours and 20 minutes, slightly below average for its price range.

During our thorough testing, involving various demanding activities like video streaming and gaming. The itel S24 recorded a total battery depletion of 21 percent. The device provides a full day of battery usage for regular users. Charging the itel S24 from 20 to 100 percent battery capacity takes approximately 1 hour and 43 minutes, which aligns closely with the typical charging duration for smartphones in this category.

Conclusion

The itel S24, priced at Rs 10,999 in India, competes in a highly competitive market segment. Among its key rivals are the Moto G24 Power, Redmi 12 5G, and the recently launched Realme C65 5G. While the Moto G24 Power delivers similar performance to the itel S24, it stands out with its impressive 6,000mAh battery capacity and stock Android user experience. On the other hand, both the Redmi 12 5G and Realme C65 offer great performance at competitive prices and are equipped with 5G capabilities. The Redmi 12 5G features an FHD+ display, providing a superior multimedia experience, whereas the Realme C65 boasts a smooth browsing experience thanks to its 120Hz refresh rate.

Each of these smartphones brings unique strengths to the table, catering to different preferences and needs of consumers in the market. The itel S24 lacks 5G connectivity, but excels in certain important aspects such as providing an enjoyable multimedia experience with its tall screen and impressive stereo speakers. Moreover, the phone boasts an elegant design, quality daylight cameras, and satisfactory battery performance. It is a perfect choice for individuals seeking a reliable budget smartphone that meets their basic needs.
