About HPCL
The Indian oil and gas refining company Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited has its headquarters in Mumbai. Since 2018, ONGC has held a majority stake in the company. On October 24, 2019, the company became a Maharatna PSU. The acquisition and merger of the former Esso Standard and Lube India Limited under the Esso Act of 1974 led to the incorporation of HPCL in 1974. Following HPCL’s acquisition by the Indian government in 1976, Caltex Oil Refining Ltd. and HPCL were merged under the CORIL-HPCL Amalgamation Order of 1978.
