Design
Summarizing the laptop’s design in three words, I would choose large, striking, and attractive. The HP Spectre x360 16-inch is visually appealing and is sure to turn heads due to its unique design features. While its functionality may be up for discussion, its remarkable size and distinctive gem-cut edges make it a standout piece of technology.
The laptop comes in the company’s distinctive NightFall Black color, adding a touch of luxury that complements designer accessories. Despite attracting fingerprints, the matte finish gives it an elegant appearance that could easily be seen in an advertisement featuring a celebrity carrying it.
The Spectre is constructed entirely of metal, enhancing its premium quality. It is relatively heavy, weighing just over two kilograms. You will certainly notice its weight whether it’s in your backpack or being carried in your hand. Despite its weight, the laptop has a slim chassis with chamfered edges to prevent discomfort while typing.
The hinge of the HP Spectre x360 is noteworthy as well. It enables the laptop screen to rotate up to 360 degrees, allowing for use in various modes such as Tent mode, tablet mode, or traditional laptop mode. The hinge provides sufficient friction, ensuring that the display remains stable without any shaking or movement while in use.
Display and Audio
When I tested the HP Spectre x360, I found myself drawn to watching movies and TV shows more than ever before. The laptop’s display is truly remarkable and captivated my attention throughout my time with it. In terms of specifications, the laptop boasts a 16-inch, 2.8K OLED touchscreen display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen is HDR-compatible, providing a maximum SDR brightness of 400 nits and a maximum HDR brightness of 500 nits.
The OLED display of the Spectre x360 is capable of showcasing vibrant colors and rich blacks, covering the full DCI-P3 color gamut. The slim bezels around the screen disappear when viewing content with dark scenes, like the Witcher or Daredevil TV series, offering excellent viewing angles and sharp display of 4K content.
The screen is IMAX Enhanced, enhancing the viewing experience for certain content. However, finding compatible movies and TV shows may be challenging, as most are not accessible in India, rendering this feature somewhat insignificant. The panel’s 120Hz refresh rate enhances the screen’s attractiveness. Basic browsing is smooth, navigating through lengthy PDFs is less disruptive, and it adequately serves individuals interested in trying out eSports games such as Valorant.
Additionally, it features a touchscreen and HP includes a handy stylus for users who enjoy drawing while on the move. If you’re inclined towards artistry, the laptop’s sizable screen is ideal for sketching and other creative tasks. In terms of audio, the laptop includes two front-firing woofers and two top-firing tweeters calibrated by PolyAudio. The speaker arrangement delivers sufficient volume, with a commendable bass presence that is particularly noteworthy.

Ports and I/O
It’s reasonable to expect the HP Spectre x360 16-inch to have numerous ports due to its size, however, that’s not the case. The laptop only has two Thunderbolt 4 ports, with one located within the gem-cut edge. In addition, it includes a USB Type-A 3.1 port, an HDMI 2.1 slot, and a combo headphone jack. If you want to connect several accessories to the device, you’ll need to use dongles.
The laptop features a top-notch 9-megapixel webcam with AI capabilities. It supports 1440p video recording and includes convenient functionalities such as Walk-away Lock and Privacy Alert. Specifically, Privacy Alert blurs the screen when unauthorized individuals are detected by the camera. Moreover, the webcam can recognize your face and blur the background using the NPU.
Keep in mind that the myHP app and the HP Command Center support the majority of these functions. Both applications offer a sleek user interface and precise guidance to help beginners set up.
Keyboard And Trackpad
When I’m not assessing laptops, I enjoy using a mechanical keyboard. Switching from a mechanical keyboard to a laptop’s chiclet-style deck can sometimes be challenging. However, the Spectre x360 16-inch laptop stands out as its keyboard features well-spaced keys that produce a satisfying clicky sound when pressed.
The keys remain stable when I place my fingers on them, and the backlit LED under the keyboard deck also provides sufficient brightness. The trackpad is notably larger compared to other laptops, offering a customizable haptic intensity on a smooth surface that can be adjusted in the Touchpad settings menu in Windows.
To adjust the brightness and volume, you can partition a segment of the trackpad. The myHP app is required to access this function, which integrates smoothly with the laptop. The gestures offer tactile responses, adjusting the brightness or volume gradually with audible clicks. The included fingerprint sensor functions perfectly, allowing quick laptop access.

Performance and Battery Life
The HP Spectre x360 16-inch is a reliable performer, equipped with Intel’s Core Ultra 7 155H processor with six performance, eight efficiency, and two LPE cores. It boasts a 16-core processor capable of handling 22 threads, complemented by 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 2TB Gen 4 NVMe SSD. Graphics are powered by Intel’s Arc GPU. During testing, the laptop smoothly handled multitasking with communication apps, project management tools, and web browsing, showcasing its efficiency compared to more powerful alternatives.
I conducted several synthetic tests to assist in evaluating its performance. In CineBench, the laptop achieved 101 and 830 points in single-core and multi-core runs. The PCMark 10 and PCMark 10 Extended benchmarks resulted in scores of 7,170 and 7,116, respectively. Which closely match those of the ASUS ZenBook 14 OLED and the HP Omen Transcend 14 gaming laptop, both equipped with a Core Ultra 7 155H processor. The laptop is expect to be use for creative workflows by many users. In the Adobe Photoshop benchmark by PugetBench, the laptop scored 6,348 points. Comparable to MacBook Pros with the M3 chipset and 8GB of RAM, indicating its proficiency in handling photo editing tasks.
Flip to the GPU-bound benchmarks section, which includes those found in 3DMark’s suite. You will observe a relatively unfavorable outcome. The Omen Transcend 14 leads comfortably here, courtesy of its dedicated RTX 4060 GPU. Despite this, the Intel Arc graphics deliver an impressive performance, surpassing decent scores in Fire Strike Extreme and Time Spy Extreme benchmarks. I tested the laptop’s performance in real–world usage by running a few games. Keep in mind that the Spectre is not designed for gaming. So expecting flawless performance on every AAA game would lead to disappointment. The Arc GPU performs well with eSports games or older AAA titles. But not beyond that. For example, by lowering the settings and setting the resolution to 1,920 x 1,200, I achieved around 80FPS in Apex Legends.
In the same way, the laptop maintained an average of 45 FPS in GTA V when the graphics were set to High and the game was played at the laptop’s native resolution. However, highly demanding games such as Cyberpunk 2077 significantly strain the laptop’s capabilities. For example, CyberPunk only achieved an average of 15 FPS when set to the lowest graphics settings at the laptop’s native resolution. Although reducing the resolution to 1,920 x 1,200 pixels did improve the FPS, the game still fell short of reaching 30 FPS.
Predictably, the slim design of the laptop caused it to become noticeably warm to the touch. Interestingly, while engaging in a 40-minute session of playing GTA V, HWInfo indicated that almost all of the P-cores reached temperatures of 100 degrees. I also observed a decrease in the in-game FPS during gameplay. Nevertheless, the Arc GPU performed admirably, showcasing the impressive advancements in integrated graphics in recent times. Furthermore, I was satisfied with the laptop’s battery life. Our PCMark 10 Battery (Video) test, which involves continuous video playback until the battery is fully depleted, confirmed this. The Spectre x360 lasted for nearly 12 hours, which is commendable. In my personal experience, I could utilize the laptop for approximately 6-6.5 hours before needing to recharge it.
The Spectre x360 allows users to replace the Wi-Fi card and M.2 drive, but the SSD is concealed under a protective black mylar on the motherboard. It is important to remove this before making any upgrades and to disconnect the battery. Accessing the internals is simple with the removal of four screws at the back. However, upgrading the RAM is not possible on this laptop, which is disappointing.

Verdict
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with HP’s Spectre x360 convertible. The laptop is scheduled to be returned any day now. I know I’ll miss its OLED display, spacious keyboard deck, and responsive trackpad a lot. The same can be said for its performance and battery backup, which didn’t disappoint me in the slightest.
HP’s myHP and HP Command Centre stand out from other system apps by offering valuable features for end users. Personally, I found the auto-locking mechanism particularly useful, as it simplifies the authentication process significantly. The laptop’s design is impressive and practical, although its weight may limit the use of the 360-degree feature. Additionally, the laptop’s price of Rs 1,79,999 in India could deter potential buyers.
Considering the drawbacks, should you purchase the Spectre x360? If you’re a creator seeking a high-end Windows laptop, I’d recommend it. While a gaming laptop may offer better performance, the display might not be as impressive. Moreover, this laptop could be a suitable choice for business professionals who prefer the conveniences of a larger screen and longer battery life.
