Early Years
Hardik Pandya was born on October 11, 1993, in Choryasi, Surat, Gujarat, India. His father, Himanshu Pandya, initially ran a small car finance business in Surat but decided to close it and relocate to Vadodara when Hardik was five, seeking better cricket training facilities for his sons. In Vadodara, Himanshu worked as a loan agent. He enrolled Hardik and his brother in Kiran More’s cricket academy, but the family faced financial challenges, living in a rented apartment in Gorwa and relying on a second-hand car to reach the cricket ground. Hardik attended MK High School until the ninth grade before dropping out to pursue a career in cricket.
Hardik made consistent progress in junior cricket, with his brother Krunal noting that he “won a lot of matches single-handedly” in club competitions. In an interview with the Indian Express, Hardik mentioned that he had been dropped from state age-group teams due to what were deemed “attitude problems.” He described himself as “just an expressive child” who didn’t “like to hide his emotions.” According to his father, Hardik was a leg spinner until the age of 18, after which he transitioned to fast bowling at the encouragement of Baroda coach Sanath Kumar.
