Martyrdom

In India, Aurangzeb wanted to convert the Hindu populace to Islam, even if it meant putting them to death if they disobeyed his orders. To stop the conversions, a group of Kashmiri Pandits asked Guru Tegh Bahadur for assistance.

If the emperor was successful in turning him to Islam, Guru Tegh Bahadur declared, then the others would be prepared to convert as well. He was then taken into custody and handed to the emperor. He was held captive for four months after refusing to accept Islam. Three of his disciples were murdered in front of him as a result of his failure to work a miracle to demonstrate his closeness to God. The emperor gave the order to behead Guru Tegh Bahadur because he continued to reject conversion. In Chandni Chowk, a market plaza in Delhi next to the Red Fort, his beheading was performed in front of onlookers. It happened on November 11, 1675.
