The Story of Gowardhan Puja
According to the Vishnu Purana, Lord Krishna once questioned Yashoda ji, his mother, about the reason behind everyone’s devotion to Lord Indra. He was told by Mother Yashoda that people worship Lord Indra in order to have enough rain to sow crops, feed cows, and gather food from the fields.
In response to his mother Yashoda’s response, the kid Kanha (Krishna) suggested that they should worship Gowardhan Parvat (Mountain) in order to ensure that the villages would receive enough rain. Lord Krishna ordered the peasants to stop the custom of offering colossal amounts of food to Lord Indra and instead utilise it to feed their family.
It’s thought that Lord Indra has a very aggressive disposition. When Lord Indra noticed that people had ceased praising him, he became enraged and made the decision to exact revenge on the populace by sending down torrential downpours. All the locals were shaken with anxiety and worry as a result. Child Krishna instantly led the locals to the Gowardhan hill after noticing their plight. There, he lifted the mountain with with one finger. Along with their animals, the locals sought refuge in the mountain’s shade, Gowardhan Parvat.
