The AORUS CO49DQ is a monitor that demands attention and cannot be discreetly placed in a corner. With its 49-inch panel and 1800R curve, it is meant to be the focal point of your gaming or work setup. Despite its SuperWide dimensions (1194.78×372.23×160.51 mm), the vertical height is comparable to a standard monitor, allowing it to fit easily in most workstations, especially with the adjustable stand. However, horizontally, the curved CO49DQ requires sufficient space to fully appreciate its capabilities. Unpacking the monitor by yourself can be difficult due to its weight of 8.33kg even without the stand.

The wide form factor and curved design further complicate removing it from the box. To handle the panel delicately, it’s recommended to set it up with assistance. The stand is of excellent quality, providing a five-inch height adjustment, a 5/20-degree tilt, and a 30-degree swivel.

The only issue I noticed with the build of the AORUS CO49DQ is a slight gap between the display and the frame on my review unit. This gap tends to gather dust and affects the sleek design, which could have given a more premium feel. However, the brand assured me that this is not a widespread problem. I found that the QD OLED display delivers vibrant colors and rich blacks, resulting in a visually attractive experience. Whether you’re enjoying movies or gaming in 4K HDR, this screen provides an engaging experience that is most appreciated in real life. Its 32:9 aspect ratio presents a distinctive and wide view, changing the perspective of familiar games. Gaming titles such as God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, and Horizon Zero Dawn: Forbidden West on this ultra-wide monitor was an unparalleled experience.

As the availability of games designed for the 32:9 aspect ratio increases, it’s important to note that many games do not yet support this aspect ratio. When connecting a gaming console to this monitor, expect to see thick black bars on the sides of the screen. The monitor’s OSD menu offers specific gaming features that can enhance your gaming experience, such as the Black Equaliser which enhances dark areas on the screen. It is advisable to disable this feature when watching movies as it may overly brighten dark areas, but it can greatly improve gameplay in FPS games.

In addition, there is a Timer for tracking time, Crosshair for better aiming, and HDR mode for tailoring output depending on the content being seen (like games, movies, and HDR 400 mode for high brightness). Work experience

I connected my MacBook Air M1 to the monitor and I have to say it was quite an immersive experience. The monitor can display the equivalent of two 27-inch 16:9 windows, allowing me to easily use two apps simultaneously. I even fit in another app (Slack) between these windows. Using the HDMI/Display port.

You can have two input sources in a 16:9 aspect ratio side by side. Essentially, the AORUS CO49DQ can replicate the results of a two/three-monitor setup without any bezels in between. If you edit videos or music, this screen is ideal for maximum convenience. With PIP and PBP features, you can simultaneously display various video sources on the screen.

As we are talking about a QD-OLED panel, we need to address the elephant in the room – burn-in. This issue can be triggered on OLED monitors (QD-OLED monitors are infamously notorious for showcasing this issue even quicker than W-OLED panels) if your workstation with your laptop/PC features a lot of static elements on the display. To tackle this issue, Gigabyte has included an AI-based algorithm on the AORUS CO49DQ to minimise the risks of burn-in issues and deploy it across a series of OLED–protecting technologies on the monitor. It is impossible to check the effectiveness of this implementation during the review as usually, these issues pop up after months if not years of usage. But it is always great to know that the panel has some extra safety mechanisms in place.

I recommend gamers to opt for gaming headphones over using the monitor’s built-in speakers. For watching movies or TV shows, a soundbar is ideal.
