Gigabyte AORUS CO49DQ Gaming Monitor Review: When considering a PC monitor, the typical screen size that comes to mind is usually between 21 to 27 inches. However, for gaming monitors, sizes ranging from 27 to 34 inches are more common. These sizes are widely popular in their respective segments. To expand their screen real estate, many users opt for a dual or triple-monitor setup, enabling them to multitask efficiently and immerse themselves in ultrawide screen gaming experiences.
In recent times, there has been a noticeable shift in trends. While some individuals are choosing to utilize larger 42 to 55-inch TVs as monitors, others who prioritize factors such as response time, field-of-view width, and high refresh rates without breaking the bank are turning towards SuperWide Monitors. These SuperWide Monitors provide an expansive viewing experience that bridges the gap between traditional monitors and large-screen TVs, catering to users who seek a balance between size and performance.

Design And Build Quality
The AORUS CO49DQ is a monitor that demands attention and cannot be discreetly placed in a corner. With its 49-inch panel and 1800R curve, it is meant to be the focal point of your gaming or work setup. Despite its SuperWide dimensions (1194.78×372.23×160.51 mm), the vertical height is comparable to a standard monitor, allowing it to fit easily in most workstations, especially with the adjustable stand. However, horizontally, the curved CO49DQ requires sufficient space to fully appreciate its capabilities. Unpacking the monitor by yourself can be difficult due to its weight of 8.33kg even without the stand.
The wide form factor and curved design further complicate removing it from the box. To handle the panel delicately, it’s recommended to set it up with assistance. The stand is of excellent quality, providing a five-inch height adjustment, a 5/20-degree tilt, and a 30-degree swivel.
The only issue I noticed with the build of the AORUS CO49DQ is a slight gap between the display and the frame on my review unit. This gap tends to gather dust and affects the sleek design, which could have given a more premium feel. However, the brand assured me that this is not a widespread problem. Apart from this, the monitor boasts solid and durable build quality. The monitor has a solitary joystick control located at the bottom center for accessing OSD features. Located at the rear are the various connectivity options available.
- 2 x HDMI 2.1 ports
- 1 x Displayport 1.4 port
- 1 x USB Type-C (Alternate Mode; Upstream port; Power Delivery up to 18W) port
- 2 x USB 3.0 Downstream ports
- 1 x USB 3.0 Upstream port
- 1 x Earphone Jack
As you can see, the monitor offers a plethora of connectivity options (including a KVM switch). However, one aspect to consider here will be cable management. If you’re using multiple ports (all downward-facing), the resulting entanglement could be unsightly.
Display Quality, Use Cases, And Features
The AORUS CO49DQ monitor features a remarkable 49-inch QD-OLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate and a DQHD resolution of 5,120 x 1,440 pixels. It can accurately display 99 percent of colors in the DCI-P3 color space, providing users with excellent color accuracy. The monitor also includes an anti-glare coating to reduce glare, although it may still reflect light in specific lighting conditions. At 250 cd/m2 brightness for regular use, the display is suitable for indoor viewing.
In addition, users can benefit from a broad viewing angle of 178 degrees and an outstanding 1500000:1 contrast ratio, elevating the visual experience for a range of content. The AORUS CO49DQ monitor is equipped with advanced features like AMD FreeSync Premium Pro for seamless gaming, HDMI 2.1 supporting Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) for improved connectivity, and an ultra-fast GTG response time of just 0.03 seconds. These state-of-the-art specifications position the AORUS CO49DQ monitor as a top choice for gamers and professionals looking for immersive visuals and swift performance on their screens.
The panel features VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 and ClearMR 8000 certifications, showcasing its capacity to offer a wide range of brightness and color, deep black levels, a peak brightness of 400 nits in HDR, and motion clarity. The display shows high color accuracy, even with the default settings. However, you can make precise adjustments by accessing the OSD menu to tailor the picture settings to your liking, thanks to the wide range of customization options provided.

Gaming experience
I found that the QD OLED display delivers vibrant colors and rich blacks, resulting in a visually attractive experience. Whether you’re enjoying movies or gaming in 4K HDR, this screen provides an engaging experience that is most appreciated in real life. Its 32:9 aspect ratio presents a distinctive and wide view, changing the perspective of familiar games. Gaming titles such as God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, and Horizon Zero Dawn: Forbidden West on this ultra-wide monitor was an unparalleled experience.
As the availability of games designed for the 32:9 aspect ratio increases, it’s important to note that many games do not yet support this aspect ratio. When connecting a gaming console to this monitor, expect to see thick black bars on the sides of the screen. The monitor’s OSD menu offers specific gaming features that can enhance your gaming experience, such as the Black Equaliser which enhances dark areas on the screen. It is advisable to disable this feature when watching movies as it may overly brighten dark areas, but it can greatly improve gameplay in FPS games.
In addition, there is a Timer for tracking time, Crosshair for better aiming, and HDR mode for tailoring output depending on the content being seen (like games, movies, and HDR 400 mode for high brightness). If you choose to adjust the screen manually, you can utilize the 6-axis color control function. This enables you to modify the Red, Green, Blue, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow hues according to your liking.
Work experience
I connected my MacBook Air M1 to the monitor and I have to say it was quite an immersive experience. The monitor can display the equivalent of two 27-inch 16:9 windows, allowing me to easily use two apps simultaneously. I even fit in another app (Slack) between these windows. Using the HDMI/Display port.
You can have two input sources in a 16:9 aspect ratio side by side. Essentially, the AORUS CO49DQ can replicate the results of a two/three-monitor setup without any bezels in between. If you edit videos or music, this screen is ideal for maximum convenience. With PIP and PBP features, you can simultaneously display various video sources on the screen.
Panel protection
As we are talking about a QD-OLED panel, we need to address the elephant in the room – burn-in. This issue can be triggered on OLED monitors (QD-OLED monitors are infamously notorious for showcasing this issue even quicker than W-OLED panels) if your workstation with your laptop/PC features a lot of static elements on the display. To tackle this issue, Gigabyte has included an AI-based algorithm on the AORUS CO49DQ to minimise the risks of burn-in issues and deploy it across a series of OLED–protecting technologies on the monitor. It is impossible to check the effectiveness of this implementation during the review as usually, these issues pop up after months if not years of usage. But it is always great to know that the panel has some extra safety mechanisms in place.

Sound
I recommend gamers to opt for gaming headphones over using the monitor’s built-in speakers. For watching movies or TV shows, a soundbar is ideal. Alternatively, the dual 5W speakers on the AORUS CO49DQ can be used for a satisfactory indoor listening experience, especially with the surround sound feature.
Conclusion
The Gigabyte AORUS CO49DQ stands out as a top choice among gaming monitors currently available on the market. Boasting exceptional response time, deep blacks, limitless contrast ratio, VRR support, advanced AI features for panel safeguarding. An ultra-wide aspect ratio, this monitor is a gamer’s delight. Its spacious panel negates the necessity for a dual-monitor configuration, making it a compelling choice for professionals seeking to edit videos or images.
That being said, the monitor is priced at approximately Rs 1.3 lakhs at the moment. Furthermore, the support for a 32:9 aspect ratio is currently limited to select games. This implies that you should be certain about accepting black bars on the sides. When viewing certain content (especially when using gaming consoles) before purchasing this 49-inch large screen. The Gigabyte AORUS CO49DQ is designed for enthusiasts seeking top-notch quality, leaving no room for compromise in that aspect. If you are willing to invest and desire an unparalleled gaming experience, this monitor is a clear choice.
Pros
- Display quality is impeccable
- Great for both work and gaming
- Infinite contrast ratio
