Cycling UCI Road World Championship –The 2023 UCI Road World Championship competition plan involve 11 races over 8 days. There are more than 1,000 of the top international cyclists from 70+ nations who will compete for a gold medal and the coveted rainbow jersey.

Cycling UCI Road World Championship

The 2023 UCI Road World Championship Cycling World Championships will be held in Wollongong, Australia from Sunday 18th Sep to Sunday 25th Sep. The week long series of battles for coveted rainbow jerseys will return to the country 12 years after Geelong & Melbourne 2010, and over 1,000 international riders will compete across the 3 categories of Elite. There will be 11 events incorporating road races, time trials and a mixed team relay. Last year, Julian Alaphilippe and Elisa Balsamo won their Elite Road Race events, with Filippo Goanna and Ellen van Dijk riding their way to glory in the Time Trial.

The 2023 UCI Road World Championships will be held from 18th to 25th Sep 2023 in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. In Feb 2023 the UCI announced that a Women’s U23 category will be added to the road and time trial race. The title will be awarded from within the elite women’s event and a separate race will be added from 2025. On March 1 cycling announced that Russian and Belarusian teams will not be allowed to compete based on International Olympic Committee’s judgment on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

UCI Road World Championship Update

Cycling UCI Road World Championship UCI Championships is the 95th edition of the event,1st contested 101 years ago for amateurs in 1921. It will be the 1st edition of the race where titles are rewarded in the women’s Under 23 category, with the 2 additional rainbow jerseys taking the number of titles up for grabs to 13. That will not, however, mean any extra events are added to the plan with the U23 competition taking place within the elite women’s event.

Last year’s host Belgium has welcomed the Road World Championships 9 times six of those being in Flanders while 2023 is only the 2nd time the event will be held in the Southern Hemisphere. The Victorian city of Geelong was the 1st time, in 2010.The Australian coastal city of Wollongong will host the UCI Road World Championships in 2023, marking only the 2nd time the rainbow jersey deciding event has been held in the nation.

The world’s best cyclists are set to compete for the coveted rainbow jersey in Wollongong, Australia, at the 2023 UCI Road World Championships between  18th to 25th Sept.

More than 1,000 top international riders from 70+ nations are normal in the New South Wales city, located just 80km from Sydney, as 13 gold medals will be awarded across three group. Situated less than 100km south of Sydney, the Australian city with spectacular scenery, along with the South Pacific to the east and Mont Keira to the west, will host the event from 18th to 25th Sept 2023.
