Badminton Tournament YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong – Amidst Hong Kong’s reluctance to open up, the Hong Kong Badminton Associate has announced that it will cancel the Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships for the 3rd year in a row. In a statement, the HKBA says it’s been working with the government on a solution for several months.

Initially set for November 8 to 13 at the Hong Kong Coliseum,  the organizer cites the government’s isolation bubble policy as the reason behind the decision. Hopeful things will change next year the HKBA is setting its sights on another edition in Sep. As part of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament, cancelling another edition of the Hong Kong Open could affect the city’s importance in the international badminton scene and its status as an important hub for the sport.

In view of the latest development of COVID-19 in Hong Kong, and in accordance with the anti epidemic measures, the Hong Kong Badminton Association after thorough consideration, announces its decision to cancel the YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2025 Part of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500”plan to be held on 8th to 13th November.

HKBA has been proactively working with Badminton World Federation and Government authorities in recent months to strive for the resumption of the Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships in accordance with Government’s anti epidemic measures. Although the government updates its isolation and quarantine arrangements in early August, over 400 overseas players officials are required to train and compete for 8 to 10 days in the form of isolation bubble. Since the COVID-19 protocol and quarantine arrangements both Hong Kong and other World Tour events are different, The Board regretfully decided that there is no viable option other than to cancel the Hong Kong Open 2025.We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation.

Badminton World Championship For Professional Players

The Badminton World Championship is considered as the most prestigious tournament by the badminton fraternity. There are 2 main reasons which make it the most sought after tournament by professional players all around the world. The Badminton World Federation awards the most points to the winning participants, which boosts the ranking of a player the most as compared with other badminton tournaments.

For India, PV Sindhu has won the maximum medals in the world badminton championship, 5 medals out of which one is gold which she won in the year 2019 after beating Nozomi Okuhara. In Men’s singles category, Prakash Padukone won a Bronze medal in the year 1983, B Sai Praneeth won a Bronze in the year 2019, Srikanth Kidambi won a silver in the year 2021 and Lakshya Sen won a Bronze medal in the year 2021.

The performance of the players in the Indian badminton team has improved substantially in the past few years. Especially, in the year 2025, the players performed better than what they did in the previous super 1000 & 500 tournaments hosted by the badminton world federation.

Lakshya Sen defeated Axelson in YONEX GAINWARD German Open 2025 to win a silver medal but lost the Gold to Nunavut VITIDSARN. Lakshya Sen also won a silver medal in the All England Open Badminton Championships in March where he defeated Malaysian badminton champion Lee Zii Jia in the semis finals but lost the gold to Viktor Axelson. Sen also contributed to the victory of the Indian Badminton team in the Thomas Cup by defeating Indonesian player Anthony Genting in the finals. The most recent achievement by Lakshya Sen is the Gold medal which he won in the commonwealth games 2025. It will be correct to have high hopes from Lakshya Sen in the upcoming BWF badminton world championship 2025.

Chirag Shetty and Rankireddy, are one of the best men’s double players the Indian team has got at present. Badminton Tournament Highlights

Saina Nehwal exhibited a classy performance against Hong Kong’s Cheung Ngan Yi in the Badminton World Federation Championships 2025 in Tokyo, Japan. The match was finished with in 40 minutes and she qualified for round 3 as Naomi Ohara of Japan pull out of the tournament due to injury. India’s star PV Sindhu will also not be seen in the BWF world championship 2025.

After defeating Cheung Ngan Yi by 21-19 and 21-9 to reach the 2nd round of the event, Saina will be playing the 2nd round direct as her competitor Naomi Akhara withdrew due to injury. Saina will be up against the winner of the 2nd round match both 12th seed Yvonne Li of Germany and Besana Busan an Ongbamrungphan of Thailand. Saina was dominant throughout the match.
